Donāt forget Blake to Iowa State
I think a Ron it Back team wouldāve been a good bit better and competing for a tourney spot, especially considering the additions of Mallory and a portal add or 2.
I just donāt think last season was a good or fair way to gauge Sanchezās coaching ability and why I bristle at āanalysisā like presented above. Not a simple talent vs. coaching thing.
Yes.
Yes.
Maybe depends on the HOF coach. It would take a bit of adapting to their strengths, but for sure there was talent on the roster, even if mostly role players.
Tony had two NBA dudes (one starter!) and could barely drag his ass to Dayton and decided to take an hour long nap, when he got there. Not that Iām bitter. In fact, Iām totally over it.
I agree with that. Same or similar team wirh proper prep and no distraction or being abandoned. Thatās a mid tier team.
Yes. With a point guard like Warley (or Bliss). Absolutely yes.
Edit: It was coaching, pg attrition, and buy-in (I will never believe our rebounding wasnāt a signal that players took plays or games off). We had tournament level talent, but not the right mix without an athletic perimeter, defensively elite player/pg. And Ron isnāt Tony.
I went back and looked at how Odom did things his first year at VCUā¦didnāt move quickly, at least as far as getting commitments. Hired on March 29.
4/14 Joe Bamisile commits
4/16 Jason Nelson commits
4/18 Roosevelt Wheeler commits
4/23 Max Shulga and Sean Baistow (Utah State transfers)
5/14 Late HS add from overseas Michael Belle
5/15 Cal grad transfer Kuany Kuany
6/06 Late HS add from Germany
So basically most of it came right after the dead period in the wave of visits. Itās interesting that his Utah State guys came laterā¦I know Shulga was a rebound situation, originally was going to Viillanova. Watch for overseas guys later I guess.
This post made me feel the most zen Iāve felt about the program in weeks actually ty
Iām sad, but I wish him well.
Same dude, needed this
I sat behind ARobās family at the Wisconsin game last year and spoke to them throughout the game. Even though he was red-shirting, the family was completely bought into the coaching staff and the potential of Anthony being developed to the fullest. No coaching staff-no ARob
Iām slightly surprised given their affinity for UVA. It wasnāt just about basketball for them which is pretty rare to find these days. I remain really disappointed by his departure, The type of kid who used to thrive with Virginia Basketball.
I really think everyone is underestimating / not seeing this point with all out guys
Only guy that committed to the university and not a coaching staff is Chance.
A true Hoo.
I would think more highly of this argument if their commitment to the staff had resulted in better play and more winsā¦since it did not we all have to resign ourselves to dealing with organizational change. Not everyone wants to be part of the new team and that is OK.
I know almost everyone (fans) wanted a new coach (not Ron or Jason) but I am only saying most of the players would have stayed if Ron was named the coach.
I also dont think Ryans approach has been to get the existing players to stay which could end up being the right approach for him, but I personally disagree with it
I meanā¦heās also the only guy (and now barksdale) that committed to the new staff that never played for the old one. And, he actually de-committed and took visits at one point. And we donāt know how many of the guys Odom wanted to keep and how many he didnāt. And we dont know what kind of $ they were offered by UVA vs new school. Without all that info Iād be hesitant to question anyoneās loyalty to UVA.
