OK. No point in arguing this. We clearly have different equity in the program. I have never sat at table, exchanged messages with, or met members of the roster/staffâs families. I am strictly in it for the results/entertainment and school pride. By nature this is a transitory business players come (and coaches!) and go.
I would like to have seen Odom want to/be able to get a couple more guys to stay - especially ARob, Eli, and Cofie who are the best fits for his stuff imo (hopefully Eli will stay). I really think Cofie would thrive as Odomâs PF.
But having guys stay (especially from a team where it didnât really work out) doesnât rate very high on the list of reasons to decide on a coach, IMO.
If a new vision/strat was needed (and it was) weâre gonna need to let him prove the concept (here) a bit.
Totally agree. All good Am just sharing the way I see it which could be wrong I dont mean to be argumentative at all if thats a word hahah
All in Wahoo still
I get the feeling that Odom didnât want the guys from the old regime to stay, including A-Rob. Same reason why I donât think weâll see Guy or Isaiah back.
Agree
My comment was more tongue in cheek. Mallory committed technically before the coach announcement.
But I agree that players commit to coaches not schools. Sometimes the hometown guys may feel differently.
Part of the calculation for Odom has to be will any of the CTB holdovers ever be all in on what Odom wants. In a rebuild do holdovers help or hurt? I think there were signs in last years team that Sanchez had that problem to deal with. Was there resistance or reluctance within the team to changes he wanted to make?
Money is there.
Thats for future seasons after july when rev share kicks in
25-26 is this season. And yep understand that this coupled with what we have to spend now indicates the money is and will there for Odom to get it done.
Itâs weird to me that basketball or maybe athletics appears so compartmentalized or detached from the rest of the school or Charlottesville. Donât these men and women have other relationships and interests outside of their sport? I see statements like, All their friends are gone and thereâs nothing left for them. Feel like theyâre missing much of the experience to begin with. Add in that theyâre getting paid more than their professors and most wonât have any friends or connections to their new destinations, and itâs just odd to me that so many want to go elsewhere rather than try the new guy. Unless heâs being a dick or trying to run em off.m, isnât the path of least resistance to just stay and be part of a new era of the program?
Donât tell the Sabre. Apparently $7M canât even fund a starting 5!
Thereâs probably some degree of wanting not to have to deal with âbad habitsâ from the old systems. I could see how having too much retention could cause issues in that sense, if you had a whole bunch of guys saying âthis is how we did it before.â Doesnât feel like the strongest argument though.
Itâs hard to know how much âblameâ to put on Odom vs the players for our lack of retention. We donât really know how hard heâs trying and we donât really know what kind of feedback he got from the players in the initial meetings. Personally I would like to have retained more guys in a general sense but if the specific players Iâd rather keep just werenât really open to it, then I canât say I blame Odom too much.
Do we know why Sanchez was chosen as interim and not Williford? Was it as simple as Sanchez was Tony Bennettâs pick?
To me, from the outside, seems like a screw-job on J-Willy.
Letâs go after this kid. Went to VMI before Chattanooga.
Kid cant defend shit apparently. And is like 1 or 2 inches taller than Chance Mallory
Odom is actively trying to run off all of them except 2. Been pretty direct about it⌠just doesnât want the stench of last year and players who
Were coached differently.
Cofie and someone, I guess X
Was told he also wanted ARob and iMac but Iâm sure there are levels to that
