I’ll be attending the game with my 3 sons (11, 9, 6). We’re from NYC and travel to college games as much as we can. Bought tix in sect 113 (found out after that was visitors sect ). Staying at Fairfield Inn up in Charlottesville North. Been wanting to get to UVA for some time now and this seemed like the perfect year.
Looking for some local veteran advice. Tailgating allowed in the free parking zones? I saw somewhere there’s a Fan Fest on OHill ? Any good ? Any other game day recommendations?
Also, non football related any must see sites?. Food spots ? Neighborhoods to avoid? I’ll take any advice.
We’ll be in town Friday and heading out Monday morning.
Yes - tailgating is allowed in free lots. Your kids - esp the younger two - are likely to enjoy the fan fest. It’s in the Aquatic Center next to the stadium. There are inflatables, photo ops (w/cheerleaders, trophies from various sports, etc), throwing challenges, etc. It’s small but fun. You should hit up Wayside Chicken for your tailgate needs. It’s a local favorite.
Otherwise, Charlottesville is a gem, and this should be a beautiful time of year to visit. Walk around the university and check out The Corner. There are lots of options for food & merch on The Corner.
