I still think itās funny that Otz took a PJ to Charlottesville to recruit Rohde, and wound up with Blake instead. Itās like he decided he couldnāt leave empty handed or he wouldnāt get the PJ again
(I know this isnāt literally what happened, but I still think itās kind of funny)
But my earnest opinion on Blake is that he can be a very good modern, switchable big on defense, and I suspect thatās what Iowa State cared most about
The idea of Blake is pretty good. And he did make a big step forward in some ways last season (raising 2P% by 13 percentage points is an accomplishment). Iowa State is built around Lipsey, Momcilovic, Jefferson being able to create shots with non-ideal spacing, which gives them the ability to put plus defenders who donāt do much on offense throughout the rest of the rotation.
Nolan Smithās staff at TSU has some well-traveled guys on it. Dalonte Hill, who was once the highest-paid assistant in MBB when he was at K-State, Vince Taylor who was a long-time Tubby Smith and Johnny Dawkins assistant, and former NBA and overseas vet DerMarr Johnson.
If you change it to spent 2 years at Georgetown, transferred to Virginia and spent 2 years there, earning his undergraduate degree, then did graduate work at Memphis and Tennessee State, that soundsā¦pretty normal?
Watched a bit of Creighton against South Dakota and itās clear theyāre still learning to play without Kalkbrenner. Traudt was the starting 5 with the rail McAndrew (still a good player just so skinny) and they were giving up a ton at the rim. Iowa transfer Owen Freeman probably gonna be the starting 5 when heās fully healthy he looked pretty good.
Blake Buchanan played well for Iowa State last night against Mississippi State. He played 32 minutes, had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks.
