I was a 4th year in the student section. It was an amazing experience. I rushed the field but narrowly missed being hit when the goal post came down. The crowd on the field was so intense that I was briefly lifted off my feet by the crush of people. I remember so many people were hoarse the next day because they had been screaming their heads off.
I was a 1st year. Went to an early dinner with some guys in my suite, canāt remember if we went to O-Hill, Newcomb or the Corner. Walked to the game after. We got there early enough that there were still seats in the lower level of the student section. The first 20 or so rows were being held by pledges of various fraternities.
Earlier that day, I remember walking to class and seeing all these cars with FSU car flags driving around.
The jump down from the wall at the student section was no joke. Luckily I had a few hours by then to sober up. Running around the field hugging and high fiving random people was so much fun. At some point I lost my friends and went back to my dorm room and watched highlights on sportscenter and emailed everyone I knew that had email addresses.
Since it was my 1st semester, I hadnāt figured out to not schedule Friday classes yet. I canāt remember what class I had Friday morning or whether I went.
Hard to believe that was 30 years ago.
Youāre right. Did we have another field storm besides FSU and UNC? I have a memory storming v UNC, but from the hill. But I also remember the drop from the stands being pretty far⦠which means I must have come from there some other time. Anyway, excuse the old man fading memories.
Clempson. 1990.
NOBODY fāin beats us 30 times in a row.
VT 03
Student section. 5th row. Loudest I ever heard Scott. At one point I could swear I could āseeā the sound waves (could have been from the Beam). Jumped down from the wall, rushed the field, went back to my apartment with a new lady friend. Still have a chin strap from an FSU helmet that I found on the field. Seriously great night.
I stormed after VT, 1991. So drunk I barely remember it, but there is photographic evidence.
First storming I remember was ā83 against UNCāthe beginning of Welsh taking the program to a respectable level.
I dont think I was there ⦠oh well.

I was a 4th year and on the hillā¦.until the end, when I was on the field! One of my all time favorite memories.
2nd year. My older brother and Dad came to the game and we had great seats about 5 rows up. Basically in line with that final play! Will never forget that game. Had to go out onto the field as there was nowhere else to go!
Upper deck visitor side sitting with my best bud from UVA dorms. Rushed down to storm the field after the game. Everyone (fans players and coaches) were so excited no one wanted to leave the field. Was supposed to work 3rd shift that night but had no voice left and called out. That game and at BYU when Thomas Jones ran for a million yards were the BEST.
I was 15 and sitting in the south stand with my dad. I remember on the walk back to our car, we got passed by a group of students carrying a section of the goalposts and chanting āsemen-holes,ā which at the time I thought was the most clever epithet Iād ever heard.
Pulling over my post from a previous thread which is more applicable hereā¦
my 1st year and first game at Scott everā¦.got to take a part of the goal post back to our dorm with a crew of folks! Just amazing. Then FSU fans throwing Oranges (they thought they were going to the Orange Bowl) at us on the field because we were mock tomahawk chop chanting them. So good.
My wife and I ushered Football and Basketball games in 95. With 4 minutes left in the game male ushers went down on the field for fan control. I ended up standing on the sideline right at the goal line for the end of the game. Between Bruce Arena and Terry Holland. After the play I looked back up the field and it looked like a scene from Braveheart and the throng was already crossing midfield. I watched them tear down the goal posts and make off with the ESPN camera. Still by far the greatest atmosphere of any sporting event Iāve attended.
For the younger crowd reading this thread, and seeing what the experience was like for so many, you might not understand how invincible FSU was at that time and how they dominated the ACC for 3+ years. Other than the 2019 hoops run, this was the biggest moment in UVa sports.
Great point providing context. That was FSUās first ACC loss in 5 or 6 years if I recall and they were in the middle of their run that made FSU famous.
Looking back at the box score a few things jump out at me.
- How much talent was on the field for both teams.
Tike ran for 238 yards on 31 carries. Thatās grown man work right there both the total and the ypc avg.
- Both QBās stats are horrible by todayās standards. Groh went 19/37 302yrds 2 TDs 3 INT for a 51% completion percentage. Not to be outdone FSU QB Danny Kanell went 32/67 (damn near 70 attempts is insane even by todayās standards) 47% completion percentage would get you a spot holding one of those signs on the sideline. 454 yards 3TDs 3 Ints
Peter Warrick was redshirting that year but dressed for the game. Someone rushing the field stole his helmet that night.
