Your craziest fan reaction to a single play?

Flesh pile after Richard Morgan’s three against UNC (you know the game).

May or may not have jumped on the guy next to me in JPJ when Jay Huff hit his first three against Austin Peay.

Jumped onto my coffee table screaming after the Kenny motherf*cking Towns play.

Chris Taylor’s game winning hit in the 2011 Super Regional against UC Irvine had me hugging people I didn’t know and running up and down the stands. Also had my dad screaming some expletives in excitement within earshot of a group of young kids.

UMBC loss made me contemplate my love of sports in general lol.

Somewhat after the moment but I helped tear down and carry some goalposts after Warrick Dunn got tackled at the half yard line. At least that’s the way I remember it.

Basketball: Adam Hall’s dunk over Battier and then follow-up dunk. The orange jerseys. The tip in to win. Game had it all.

Football: Schaub pass to Alvin Pearman on 3rd and 15 down the right sideline to beat Va Tech. Went absolutely mental.

Bonus: While watching the UMBC game, my father-in-law pushed a beer toward me and said “have one on me. It happens”. I promptly responded: “Actually, it never has happened.”

Something about Sam Ficken and Penn State

Same for me. I was in NY with no money for “good” cable with ESPN so was watching at a random TGIFridays. The yell I let out startled the other people at the bar lol.

I was at the game in Pittsburgh (my hometown) for the Brogdon 3. I was Super Bowl Sunday and I had my buddy’s season tickets in the Pitt section. The UVa section was very small, and it felt like I was the only one in the building whooping and hollering. Great memory.

Also, when things looked rough for a few moments in the 2016 tourney against Hampton, and even the thought of being the first to lose to a #16 crossed my mind, I threw my phone across the room and broke it. Little did I know…

It isn’t my top moment, but the 2014 game vs Syracuse when we clinched the ACC, I was jumping up and down for a good chunk of the 2nd half and someone knocked very loudly at my door. I ignored that knock since I lived in an apartment building and no one I wanted to talk to could just come and knock on my door. Next day I got an email from management saying my downstairs neighbor complained about noise. It was a weekend afternoon, they should get over it.

Man, can I relate to this. At the time, I lived a little more than an hour away from my folks, I drove down to watch the game with my dad. At halftime I distinctly remember him saying we would get things rolling in the second half and I told him I think we’re in a world of trouble.
At the final horn we didn’t say much. I got in my car; drove home in silence. I remember thinking about exactly what you said. Started reflecting, “I think I care about this way too much.” Hated it for our guys and Tony. Brutal.

Thank God that wasn’t the end of the story

As weird as it sounds, UMBC was a crossroads moment for me as a parent.

My 19 year old is DIEHARD. Even though he’s a VCU student, they’re his #2 team. He loves UVa hoops as much as I do.

He was almost 14 when UMBC happened…8th grade. That’s a tough age for kids. We had an amazing season up to that point…had just won the ACC. We also lived in another part of the country, so he was the only UVa fan at his school. The night of UMBC he was literally in tears…begged me not to make him go to school Monday, because he knew he’d catch crap from the other kids. I told him it didn’t matter whether he stayed home a day, or a week, it was coming so best just to get it over with. It was then that it hit me that as crappy as I felt, he was going to get it 10x worse. It was a rough week, but he survived.

2018-19 we watched every game together except (believe it or not), the Texas Tech game. I had a work trip I couldn’t get out of. When I got home the day after the National Championship, he practically tackled me with a hug when I walked through the door. Kids that age aren’t always the easiest to deal with, but for me, that loss to UMBC then the turnaround the next year, will always be something we shared together.

Agree 100% I’ll always opt for an airport chilis

Are you thinking of 2014 vs Coastal Carolina? That was a scare. I don’t remember any nervous moments vs Hampton other than Tony fainting.

Man this is so awesome

My two oldest sons grew up mostly in Brasil and dont care at all about UVa hoops. It is baffling

Yeah, you’re right. I must be getting senile. But I actually didn’t remember how many times UVa has been a #1 tourney seed in the last decade. Nice to be reminded.

Mamadi floater to tie.
Dunn stopped at goal line.
Darius banked 3 for the win.
Edelin with the steal to go to Final 4.

And an underrated sigh of relief - Hoos nursing a 3 point lead against Oregon with 1:14 left … Hoos miss a 3 and Ty gets the offensive rebound with 51 seconds left and a 16 second differential to the shot clock. And Oregon inexplicably loses their minds on defense and double teams Jerome 30 feet from the basket and he finds Hunter wide open for the clinching layup with 28 seconds left and a 5 point lead. So the Hoos kept the ball for 46 seconds at a critical point.
Both teams had struggled mightily to score that day and all the Ducks had to do was play solid and get a stop and they would have had the ball with 15 seconds left down 3.
Ty had made a 3 with 3:33 left to break the tie and go up 3 and neither team had scored the rest of the half up to that point.

Funny thing about that title run. DeAndre, Kyle, Mamadi, Kihei & Braxton all had individual moments that will stay in our memories forever over that 6 game run. But without Ty’s steady presence throughout…no way we win it.
