2020-2021 Basketball Preseason

The loses to Syracuse and MSU hurt the most because of what was at stake. Prior to Bennett’s tenure, it was to UNC and Houston in Final Fours, UNC in ACC championship with Ralph, UAB in NCAA, and N.C. State in NCAA.

Losing to Florida State in the ACC tournament was the best thing that happened to us. Helped get our head on straight

I can’t believe there are people here who don’t have him ignored. That was the first thing I did after HGN explained how the ignore feature works. Dude’s a clown.

Its also a big physical thing. The energy expended in those 3-4 days while everyone has some sort of injury is real. 2019 was the year to have the focus of the NCAA tourney

@DFresh11 do you feel like the ACC tournament was a bigger deal back in your day? Even up until we won it in 2014 it was just as big to me as NCAA’s. Six years later I don’t feel the same way.

man you read my mind. The ACC Tourney was everything and all mine were in Charlotte. Was incredible how all the teams and fans showed up And of course I have stories

Also, the conference did a much better job then of putting it on. Once we started NCAA play after was a downgrade for real

For me, and this is just me, it’s not as meaningful since we’ve won it twice in the last six years. Obviously I have no real idea what it was like back in the day, but feel like once we won it in '14 and '18 and didn’t really succeed in the dance it wasn’t of much consequence how we did in the ACCT.

But, also, the NCAAT has become a bit of a cultural event in the US. Even people who never pay attention to sports in general fill out a bracket in March.

Agree, @brogdonfanpage. But winning the ACC Tournament was a big program step that needed to happen. Being in the stands for that Duke games in one of my best sports memories. That arena was probably 3/4 UVA fans and we were fucking amped.

Oh absolutely it was. Not gonna lie though, I didn’t get to experience that game live. Was playing in a rec lacrosse game and had to get score updates via hand signals from my mom on the sideline lol.

I get it. You look for validation on message boards. When somebody disagrees with you, you take it personally. No big deal.

I had been pulling for Virginia for many years without winning anything meaningful. Winning the ACC Tournament in 14 is probably second to winning the NCAA Chip of all time games. I went through 38 years of not winning nothing but a couple of NIT Championships. I went through good times and hard times and lots of heartbreak so that was one HUGE day for me

From a few weeks ago, Kihei at an open gym. Excited to see his jump to an upperclassmen this year

Also I remember when we won the ACC how HUGE that moment. Just winning the regular season was amazing (the wait to JPJ at like 4am in the morning was freezing but well worth it). That being said once March roles around the ACC tourney goes to the back of my mind. I even once forgot that we actually won the ACC tourney the year we lost to UMBC, and I was at a packed Hoo Bar watching that game when it happened.

Someone told me that the years Duke and UNC made deep NCAA runs, they didn’t win the ACCT. I’ve never done the research, but it makes sense. Save yourself for games that matter instead of games that might move you a seed line at most.

I played the 2 years and the 1 year that Duke and then UNC won it all. From memory I dont think Duke won the ACC tourney but my last year UNC may have as they beat us in the SEMIS

Mr Hooz,

Are you nervous people will block you if you post about one of our top recruits committing elsewhere?

Thanks,
