I guess its getting pretty late for 2020 targets? What is the pool we have to choose from? Grad Transfers dont have to sit a year? Is this all we can choose from at the point plus the few remaining 2020 recruits? I saw we offered 2020 Kyree Walker back a year ago who is still one of the few undecided recruits. Hes 6’5" and can supposedly shoot from all levels…guessing hes not interested, and plus it might hinder our recruitment of Keels for 2021…
Most grad transfers won’t announce their intentions until after the season, spring
The transfer market kicks in after the season. The Ivy League doesn’t allow graduate students to compete, so there are always a few of them out there early. Same for late high school seniors. The annual coaching changes create movement.
They never offered Kyree Walker. Apparently they called him one time and he ran to twitter to claim an offer. it happens. Never actually recruited him. He’s a ball dominant wing that might skip college all together.
Thanks @Foresthoo and @HoozGotNext. Apparently even in the basketball world you have to be careful about inaccurate news. Nice to have some reliable sources of information. thanks again.
Jabri was at the game tonight, posted a clip in his IG stories. His uncle is the coach at nearby Kennesaw State.
Jabri was in row 4 behind the Virginia bench. The staff acknowledged him after the game. By the way, a couple fans approached him and he politely took selfies.
@HoozGotNext can I go OT here for a second and ask about Mark Few/Gonzaga’s recruiting approach and success in getting so many skilled international players?
I see people occasionally ask in these threads about K’s and Roy’s recruiting, so figured I would ask about “America’s Team”. ![]()
Well I can’t speak that intelligently about Gonzaga specifics. But recruiting is simple in some ways. A program gets what they prove they can do right by. It’s no different than regular students choosing a college. You want to go where people like you have had success.
If you go back and look at Gonzaga before the last 6-7 years when they didn’t get high level domestic recruits, overseas developmental players were a staple. A lot of them did really well, a few in the NBA probably a bunch of successful Euro careers. Eventually that leads to getting the recruits that don’t need as much development. And I’m sure consistently having multiple Euros in the program makes it a more comfortable environment for them.
It’s really no different than here. Bennett has had a history of success with big guards and shooters. Recruiting those has been relatively easy. Point guards were a big problem until Ty broke through, making it easier to get Beekman.
Thanks HGN! Your insight is always appreciated.
McDonald’s All-American rosters were announced. I didn’t expect Jabri to make it but probably should have. His team missing Peach Jam hurt him. And the setup at USA basketball wasn’t good for him to stand out either. First glance, looks like a lot of the borderline picks were Duke and UNC commits. Not surprising.
R.J. Davis? DJ Steward? No Keon?..I didn’t expect Jabri to make it either, but man…
Oh damn I didn’t even notice Keon. That’s terrible. He’s injured but still should have received the honor. Cam Thomas is the snub drawing the most attention. Oak Hill coach Steve Smith is livid on twitter.
Honestly, I thought Askew (KY) would be in there as well.
I was surprised to see Cade Cunningham listed as undecided. I thought I saw where he committed to Okaloma State. Did he decommit or am I just mistaken?
Cunningham is committed to OSU. Most of them listed as uncommitted aren’t. Barnes to FSU. Roach to Duke. Suggs to Gonzaga. Thompson to Kansas.
Will just post my own tweet.
By my count 15 McDs All-Americans played EYBL last summer. Only one averaged more points than Jabri Abdur-Rahim, only four grabbed more rebounds, and only one made more 3s. #Snubbed

Isn’t a requirement to have played at least half of your senior season? IDK if Jabri is eligible cuz of this requirement
Do you have any knowledge on if his senior season is done? Was originally out 2-3 weeks, almost coming up on week 6 now
No idea but he’ll be back. I don’t think that was a problem. And I don’t see how they can make that sort of judgement anyway when they’re selecting them during the season.
And let’s be clear about one thing. There might be requirements about the high school season but their winter performance has no impact whatsoever on these selections. It’s all the summer stuff.
Just a casual 30 & 16 game for Reece Beekman. They’re playing at the Montverde Invitational in FL. With that win, they draw the hosts tomorrow. Some people are calling this year’s Montverde group the best HS team of all time.
Final - @smhs_hornets 67, @tmaoviedo 61. For Scotlandville, Reece Beekman 30pts, 16reb. For TMA, Andrew Thelwell 21pts, 5reb; Corey Sawyer 11pts, 7reb. @osvarsity #mait2020
