2021-22 Season Look Ahead

Why? They replaced the wrong team. Give Northwestern the boot

I didn’t realize Leitao was on this Overtime thing.

Parents and kids getting excited about the Overtime league and the experience of people involved. Now imagine same parents when they find out Dave Leitao is involved :joy:

I don’t know a lot about this Overtime league. Have they got any players yet. I know they tried to get Efton Reid but LSU pays more than they do.

Here you go:

Waiting to hear that we rescheduled the Nova game at MSG or are doing a 4 year series with Nova (JPJ, Palestra, Capital one Arena in DC, Wells Fargo Center in Philly)

Thanks

This feels as relevant to this thread as any - good interview with Woj on Chris Long’s podcast. His co-host Macon is a close friend and good people (holler at him if you need real estate in Cville) and was good enough to post this clip re: Tony’s interest in the NBA, or lack thereof (also he provided the necessary commentary on him jinxing us with the comments)

He’s definitely 100% going to Charlotte next year. Daughter at Wake, son at Charlotte. Played for the Hornets. Team that needs to develop defense. Future star in LaMelo Ball. RIP UVA Basketball.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

On the bright side, its always nice to have another thing to prematurely (hopefully) melt down over.

Great fit for tone. I cant think of two people more aligned both fundamentally and culturally than Tony Bennett and Michael Jordan. They’re so much on the same page Jordan is probably copying Tony’s paper so he can pass the class.

A little exaggerated but also can’t blame the schools that do. However I dont think this stops their players from being poached though

Though I understand their thinking, I agree it doesn’t stop it from happening and robs the smaller school from at least getting some revenue out of the interaction when they play.

I think its more of hoping to start a movement and get media notice so that it becomes an “issue” the ncaa needs to address by redefining the transfer portal maybe? But yeah hurts them short term financially.

Plus, the smaller schools would really have to play their cards right to get that outcome.

I mean, lets look at the “mid-major” and below conferences. Lets say that includes every school in every conference outside the Big 6, the AAC, the WCC, and the A10 (and I’m really only including the WCC because of the Zags and the A10 because I like VCU). So, everyone other than them, which is probably ~250 schools. To the NCAA (for basketball, and its probably more extreme for football), the ACC by itself is probably more important than all of those schools added together. Hell, who am I kidding? Duke, by itself, is probably more important than all 250 of those schools added together.

I think the smaller school’s presumptive plan of using the media to shame the NCAA into doing something about poaching is more likely to result in the Power Six schools splitting off and forming their own league, shutting everyone else off from that revenue, than it is to accomplish their actual goal.

FWIW the definition of high major the national CBB reporters (or at least the ones with podcasts lol) use includes every conference you listed above plus the Mountain West. AAC, A10, WCC, and MWC are clearly below the power 5 and BE but clearly above everyone else so sometimes they’ll be put in their own ‘high major but non power conference’ group. Then the next 15ish leagues are mid majors and the stragglers at the end of the spectrum are low majors (SWAC, MEAC, NEC, etc).

This sounds like a total reach. There is so much game on film etc that it hardly matters now. I get it that Gardner having great game against Houston “proves” he can move up but there are no secrets now in college like finding Ja Marant in AAU in some back gym.
