2021-22 Season Look Ahead

The poaching happens both ways, so I think this is just selective sour grapes (I’d also be curious about the exact number of programs that actually refuse to do their guarantee games). In my opinion, figuring out how to retain your talent is just life for any other employer (or even schools), but sometimes you can’t offer a better situation than someone else. That’s just what it is.

On an unrelated note for a slow day, Igor putting in work. Very much training to be a perimeter player.

Interesting take. While I can see why a mid-major is concerned about players being “scouted” during a game or poached. I think the overall estimation is a bit overblown. Does it help to get a live look at a potential player? Of course, the chances that they see and bring in said player I have to think are slim.

That is an absurd reaction, if true, to not schedule games against P5 schools. You can’t hide guys who are playing great at lower level schools. And those guys love their shot at taking down a P5 school.

Not exactly sure what the training goal is for the elastic strap when you run to your shooting spot. Maybe to simulate Jay Bilas or some other Dukie having hold of your nut sack while they are guarding you?

I’m thinking this would only apply to some of the shadier P5 programs… Like Kentucky and LSU.

We should bail, this tourney sucks now.

I actually think this is probably better for the team as a whole. UCLA is a much more complete team than us right now, and we are going to need time to get things rolling. The teams in this tournament are a happy medium between a pushover like St. Francis and a top five team like UCLA. While of course I’d rather see us play UCLA, I think it will offer a better litmus test to see where the team is early in the season, and I definitely won’t complain about an easier path to a tournament win.

I know you said the Charlotte scenario in jest, but I fear another team. if the Bucks move on from Budenholzer for some strange reason like some commentators have speculated, I think Milwaukee would give Tony a call and you have to think Tony at least thinks about going home to coach Giannis rather than saying no preemptively like he’s done before.

Best thing we have against CTB going to the Bucks is that his wife is a southern girl and is apparently not a fan of Wisconsin winters.

We’re not allowed to play in cool preseason tournaments so we might as well ride this out

So we went from a tournament containing a Chris Beard led Texas team and a top 5 UCLA team to one containing arguably the two worst Power 5 basketball programs an a mediocre Providence team. And because we’re the nice guys we will stay in and play yet another crappy preseason tournament.

And at some point it moved from Brooklyn to Newark

Not a fan of staying in this field now. In my opinion, there’s just no benefit to those games. There’s no upside. If we win, we’re supposed to and it really doesn’t benefit SOS and if we lose the losses hurt bad.

I hate these pre-season tournaments. But i get CTBs line of thought. I did the same thing when I was coaching and scheduling. Now i get why i got so many complaints

I’m already preparing myself for an inevitable matchup with Wisconsin in the Big 10 challenge

Also looks like UCLA pulled out so they could play the Zags so that’s cool

Honestly, the one NBA position I was concerned about was New Orleans when they had an opening end of last season.

  1. His wife is from Louisiana.
  2. They really needed a defensive-minded hire at the time.
  3. The chance to work with a young nucleus of Zion, Ingram & Ball.
  4. Maybe this is just me being a paranoid Hoo, but the NOLA GM is a Dookie…hiring Tony would weaken one of the two ACC programs on par with Dook.

Disagree. I think we now have the risk of losing to a terrible team like UGA or NW that could hurt our resume, while a win against either does not help at all
