2022 Dream Class

I agree they can’t see every kid. Just think your cutoff is way too low for when it becomes a crap shoot. A guy like Bossi can see the top 75ish players on the AAU circuits and at camps. The crapshoot really comes after the top 100 or 150. That’s when you get to kids who didn’t flash as much or didn’t play in one of the big AAU leagues. That’s a crapshoot.

Not saying scouts are good enough that they can precisely differentiate between the 50th and 70th ranked kid. But the 50-75th ranked kids are going to vastly outperform the 125-150th ranked kids overall. The rankings are obviously flawed but they aren’t useless. At least in normal years. They might be useless for 2021 and 2022.

Is NBA Top 100 Camp confirmed for Charlottesville this year? Does it offer any special advantages to our staff this year after the chaos of the last 12 months of recruiting restrictions?

I think it’s headed to Orlando

There’s some talk that they might have it in late July in Orlando, but nothing official. Not a very good time for it. Most players would probably skip if they do it then. Camps like that are usually held in June when players are available.

From the Texas writer who put in the early crystal ball pick for Texas for Nunez. Oregon did hire the assistant who was recruiting him at Texas.

Ive personally been on the “Tony will be able to evalute more pg prospects this summer before rushing all in on Nunez” camp/huge Jameel Brown + going after a pg in 2023 like Caleb Foster.

The assistant Oregon hired wasn’t at Texas. He seems to be a friend of Austin’s dad. He’s bounced around a lot, coaching at several schools in Texas including UT-San Antonio. And probably started recruiting Austin at Arkansas two years ago on the staff there.

None of this or the other schools involved will have much to do with whether he ends up at UVA, imo

Got it.

Was able to find more highlights of Robert Jennings from the game above. Definitely my favorite power forward propsect for 2022 that we have been keeping an eye on so far. Pairing him with Traudt and a modern big in '22 or '23 would be nice for the front court.

Wow that Peach Jam schedule is horrible. These coaches and parents are going to go broke. 12 days is ridiculous.

I’m not convinced that this is true. Admittedly, I picked 2017 sort of randomly, but the members of that class were this year’s seniors. Go back and look at either Rivals’ or 24/7’s Top 150. You might be surprised at how badly they missed on some of these prospects. In particular, note the rankings of Garza, Kispert, and Butler. I know it’s just three players, but they highlight how poorly these services perform. (You can also look at Kris Wilkes, Jalek Felton, Charles O’Bannon, Jr., Alex O’Connell, D J Harvey, and Davide Moretti.) What these lists do is generate site visits (and that is all about which their bean counters care), and few remember what the rankings were a year after the fact. It would be kind of interesting if someone went back every spring and did an audit of the rankings from four years previous and placed a value on their accuracy.

2017 was a significantly down class so it probably was more off than others. Not going to take the time to do an analysis today but maybe on a slower weekend it would be something I could find myself doing. But as a very surface level glance this year’s consensus All Americans (24/7 composite rankings):

-Jared Butler 97th in 2018
-Cade Cunningham 1st in 2020
-Ayo Dosunmu 32nd in 2018
-Luka Garza 118th in 2017
-Corey Kispert 106th in 2017

-Kofi Cockburn 46th in 2019
-Hunter Dickenson 43rd in 2020
-Evan Mobley 3rd in 2020
-Jalen Suggs 11th in 2020
-Drew Timme 43rd in 2019

So we back in the MJ Rice picture? Wouldn’t complain at all but what positional need? Don’t see it happening but wouldn’t complain at all. I remember at one point he was a 2021 reclass possibility but probably not anymore/fit into that Keels type big guard, but we got Armaan and Taine. Butttt wouldn’t complain at all.

That list of schools should be referred to as “Bennett and the bag droppers” lol

Just saw he has 4 crystal balls for NC State

I think those are older but not sure how old. If Keatts gets fired next year it becomes moot.

MJ Rice to UVA is 98.4% not happening but it would be interesting. He’s played 1-4 positions so I wonder what role staff would envision him as.

Would be dope if we actually are recruiting him and maybe even trying to get a reclass option.

But my gut says none of those schools are recruiting him heavily but technically are “recruiting him the hardest” as they try to guage and see if he goes pro or not.

It does help though that all the NC players are close and MJ Rice knows Trey Murphy and Jayden Gardner I believe.
