Playing on the same team for an event with Hunter Sallis who is expected to commit to Gonzaga soon. Would be more worried about Gonzaga but they seem to be prioritizing another small forward/4man combo and have Traudt as a plan B. Helps that Tony has really prioritized Traudt. Brings some much needed athleticism along with elite shooting and handles for his size.
I suspect this has something to do with all the PT UNC may have available soon
Big man from Florida. Not really new. They’ve been in touch with him from the start. Should be a lot of this type of thing over the next month . Picking up contact ahead of watching their AAU streams, during what would have been the evaluation periods.
Sorry if already mentioned but gotta think this helps us with Nunez. Even if Shaka doesn’t leave, there’s a lot of uncertainty going forward. https://twitter.com/garyparrishcbs/status/1375467312476721153?s=21
Best case scenario for UVA with Nunez was Shake Smart staying at Texas as a lame duck. Let’s see who they hire.
They’re certainly gonna back up a brinks truck for Beard. Intrigued to see if he bites
Rough night for the Poca Dots as they fall to Fairmont 45-38. Second loss in two days. By my count, McKneely was 5-21, 2-12 on threes, and 2-3 from the line. Hope the Dots are able to get things turned around and get back to their winning ways.
Unfortunately couldn’t find full game footage from yesterday’s game, but supposedly McKneely went for 19 pts in that one. But they fell to a team led by a 21 pt scorer who hit a half court buzzer beater to break a tie at the end of regulation.
So I haven’t really tracked high school stats of our recruits before. I’ve looked at AAU but not regular high school games. How is McKneely performing compared to how you would expect a top 60 kid to perform?
I think he’s a 2023 guy but found the SI article about Reed Sheppard in Kentucky very interesting. Jeff Sheppard’s kid. Touches on Cal, one and done era, and how UK recruits (or doesn’t) instate. Mentions Tony as a coach that has reached out and he sounds very much like a Tony player. Could also be the next Mac McClung so who knows.

Laurel… hmmmm.
If he does spurn UK, UVA would be an obvious fit.
I will be honest and say that I’m not qualified to really assess how good he looks. I can say that he definitely looks more athletic than the other players on the floor, so you can tell why he’s the one with the D1 offers. His shot is not falling at the rate you might expect though, which appears to be frustrating him as well, and he’s struggling a little to get to the hoop when not in transition. Not sure what’s going on there - might just be a bit of a cold spell in a difficult year. Two games in which he reportedly had a good and a solid performance (v. Notre Dame and v. Winfield) aren’t on YouTube, so that skews the stats, but in the seven games I’ve been able to watch, he’s shooting around 43% overall and 32% from three. Really do want to see him in AAU though and see what he looks like there.
Yikes definitely have to hope those shooting percentages are Covid rust related or just a normal slump.
i linked this in the blog, but nice interview with Bobi Klintman.
Earlier this week Poca played Buffalo and won 65-26. In that game, by my count, McKneely shot 4/15 overall, 0/8 from three, and had no free throws.
Poca has a big game tonight at 7:00 against Nitro who beat Poca earlier this season and currently sit at 8-2 to Poca’s 7-3.
These McKneely stats are not ideal
What’s going on? Even guys who can’t shoot in college shoot decently well in high school. And he’s supposed to be a shooter.
I honestly don’t know. I’m not sure if I should even post them anymore or just leave it alone, cause I’m not trying to put pressure on a high school kid by putting stuff on a message board that he might stumble across. That might be the last one for a while now that I’m thinking about it.
Obviously there is now a rule that Tony’s recruits can’t shoot.
Yeah and not sure coaches follow these high school games, unless it’s the bigger ones because the competition isn’t very good.
