They have sources just like HGN does…
Any 22 recruit that has an offer this early in the process from CTB is 100% a take. Think of 22 as recruiting a complete starting 5 to restock the roster. They have offered the 2G, SF, and PF so far. Still evaluating the PG and C prospects. 21 class is wait and see due to so many moving pieces. Does Stattman get cleared healthwise? Anyone transfer out? Jabri, Casey, McKoy, Carson, and Caffaro are transfer risks to varying degrees. Does Murphy leave after this year? Probably not but still a risk. Spring will be very active with transfer prospects and late blooming HS prospects depending on how those variables shake out. And Keels is so good he is a take regardless of the answers to any of the questions above or the commitments of McNeely or Taylor.
I don’t see Carson, Casey, or JAR as transfer risks
One certainly could be
And fellow Texan Noah Shelby went off last night.
Oh well that’s comforting. I’d hope the first years wouldn’t bail after the most stressful and unusual season ever and Casey after his continued improvement growth.
Recent rumors or beginning of season rumors? I heard beginning of season rumors but I think those have been eased up on as the season played out
That would be surprising. Casey seems to be on the upswing in terms of his role and confidence. And JAR and McCorkle both seem to have come in with redshirt expectations for various reasons
Let’s be clear: the “JAR came in with expectations of redshirting” narrative is highly likely the result of what I like to call “message board echo chamber wishful thinking.” One guy on thesabre once mentioned he heard that SAR may have said on a radio show or something well before JAR got to grounds that a redshirt may be necessary and now that post has echoed between posters so many times that some believe redshirting was always the plan.
Also to be clear: I have no idea what the truth is, so maybe that was the plan all along and he’s perfectly happy. Maybe he’s pissed and will transfer out immediately. I don’t know.
But the redshirting narrative has all the makings of message board delusion.
I don’t believe for one minute that JAR came in expecting to redshirt.
I missed this earlier. Sounds right. In-line with what’s been going around. A quiet period means coaches can’t go out but recruits can visit. The hope is they’ll let up sooner than end of June though.
Like the Traudt quotes a lot
I like the quote as well-- there’s a difference between I think I would really fit their style of play well (UVA) and they tell me how well I fit their system (Creighton). Assuming Traudt is willing to travel far for college, I like our chances against his current list of offers. If Michigan State or Gonzaga offer, though, that would probably change things considerably. I’m assuming that neither UNC or Duke will offer.
Yeah, I think that Casey Morsell is showing that he has some potential as an ACC player.
I think that we have too many walk-ons or walk-on-type players on our team. Instead of all of those guards, we needed to have another big man to develop, even if he’s a walk-on-type.
I hope that Murphy doesn’t leave, because we need him, and he could really raise his stock up with a great year.
Until Kadin Shedrick shows that he’s healthy enough and strong enough to play next year, then I’m not going to assume that he will be, or expect anything from him. So, Caffaro is going to have to be our center next year, it looks to me.
Caffaro has pluses and minuses as a player, so hopefully the coaching staff can reduce his number of minuses, and increase his pluses.
Our secret weapon next year will be Kihei Clark. I think he could be a first-team All-American as a senior. I see more and more Muggsy Bogues in him every day! College coaches say that PG is the most important position on college teams, by the way.
I’m thinking that there are so many Division 1 men’s basketball programs that any player a Division 1 coach wants to get a verbal commitment from, even before that happens, the coach has to think, “What are the chances I can get him to graduate from high school this year, not next year, and “skip” his senior year? Could he do it with high school summer school?”
I still find it astonishing that Clark is, by far, the UVA most comfortable operating in the post. with Caffaro probably a distant 2nd. Caffaro was a 4-star recruit, but as an international player there’s always a higher margin of error, so he kinda fills that “project big-man” slot.
As for Shedrick, he’s missed 5 games so its clearly serious, but he also seems to be traveling with the team and seems to be viewed as “day to day” so its way too early to write him off. If he bounces back with no long-term effects and continues developing I feel good about the front-court. Anyone remember how long Badocchi went to games, but dressed in sweats, before they finally said he wasn’t coming back?
Hey if there’s one thing that Tony Bennett has taught us, it’s that he can perform magic with guards.
So it he wants to put Clark, who is probably 5-7, at center, and the other teams don’t even bother to guard him when he’s standing there at the foul line, let’s get him the ball! Clark shouldn’t be so concerned about possibly getting his shots blocked: you can’t score if you don’t shoot!
Think we’ll need to bring in a transfer at center/forward after this year? Cafarro doesn’t seem ready and Shedrick is losing lots of development time right now.
