With 12 teams, there should never be an undefeated left out again. But somehow I don’t trust the committee will put in 2 undefeated G5 teams over the 4th place SEC team

Depends on the rules. Think the highest ranked G5 champ will automatically make it under the current agreement
But honestly they should split the P4 and G5 into two separate divisions and have a separate G5 national championship. Having half the teams eliminated from the competition before the season even starts is beyond dumb
Alabama will somehow win it all and people will be like “See?!?!?”. And then we’ll all forget about it for awhile until somehow Alabama-FSU meet in a future CFP and FSU gets blown out and people will be like “See?!?!?!?”

The committee contradicted itself by putting FSU 5th instead of like 8th. They are claiming FSU somehow threaded the needle of being worse than Alabama but better than Georgia.

I’d take Oregon over Washington too, despite losing to them twice already. Agree with you, doesn’t mean Oregon should be in either.
Saban’s argument last year was that Alabama would be favored over half the playoff teams last year so they should’ve gotten in. Committee said that wasn’t how things worked. Fast forward one year and Saban got his way.

Don’t forget, FSU not making the playoff means they go to the Orange Bowl instead of Louisville. You know who else loses out? Every other ACC school that now has less bowl revenue to share. Not having a 2nd ACC team in a NY6 bowl probably cost UVA a million bucks.

Yeah, and FSU will make good money from the Orange Bowl, but its still at least $10M less than having made the CFP. Plus, every ACC team loses some money from getting bumped down a rung.
Why is beating Oregon such a big deal? Oregon beat Portland State, Texas Tech, and Hawaii out of conference. Their other wins were vs a suspect PAC-12. Their OOC schedules were awful. Washington beat Boise St, Tulsa, and an awful Mich State team. Arizona beat Northern Arizona and UTEP and lost to Mississippi State. Oregon State beat San Jose St, UC Davis, and San Diego St. USC beat San Jose St and Nevada but lost to Notre Dame by 4 TD’s. The whole conference is suspect in terms of results.

Well, their OOC schedule will prepare them well for their bowl game vs Liberty.
For all the discussion about how FSU’s offense was anemic vs Louisville, which drops them out of the top 4, ironic that the dirty play from $EC Florida knocked FSU QB Rodemaker out of the ACC Championship game with a concussion and allows $EC Alabama to sneak in.

Oregon is good, they pretty much flattened everyone in their way except for Washington.
But NorVaHoo brings up a point that I was wondering about, Why is the Pac12 given all this love in SOS. I think top to bottom they are better than the ACC, but how is it that Washington has the 11th toughest SOS and FSU has the 55th? FSU went and played two SEC schools on the road. They played Clemson, Louisville, and Miami (who also beat an SEC team). I mean how is that the 55th toughest schedule? The ACC did what was asked, went out played games against the SEC, Big 10 and Notre Dame and won a good number. The only thing that did not go to plan is cutting down the head scratching losses in conference, Coastal chaos spread. I am not sitting here to say the ACC is on par with the SEC and Big 10. Not even saying we are as good as the Pac12 or Big 12, but the gap was a lot narrower this year based on on field results. I just cannot see how FSU had the 55th ranked schedule unless there is a flaw in the methodology of the metrics.

The gap was narrower for sure you make a good point. I’m not some Pac12 apologist but in conference it was a good conference esp on the top half. Ore Wash obviously at the top but Or St and USC for a large chunk of the season. And then a solid middle with ucla AZ ASU and Utah.
All that said narratives and expectations matter. I’ll be the first and am on record defending FSU. They got hosed plain and simple. However aiming the arrows at Wash and the pac12 is miss placed.

I hear you Dragon. And just so others don’t misunderstand (because we discussed yesterday) I am not trying to say Washington did not deserve in, just that both them and FSU should be in it.
