The Jordan Travis excuse is just that, an excuse, a way for the committee to rationalize what they wanted to do anyway. Looks like a classic case of gut* making the decision, brain figuring out how to justify it.

Washington doesn’t belong if we’re just picking the best teams. They would be underdogs vs more than 3 other teams.

I could see Oregon having a lot of opt outs including Bo Nix so it might not be a total blowout. Maybe just by 20 instead of 40.

The fact that the CFP committee penalized a team because a player got injured, but didn’t penalize the team whose coach was suspended TWICE this season for cheating, tells you all you need to know about how screwed up its priorities are.
Also: To tell a kid that he cost his team a playoff spot because he got hurt is just disgusting.

I probably misspoke a bit there. I should have said that the best argument for FSU being able to compete with the other teams. Not their inclusion
That and the FSU just defense throttled a solid offense of a top 15 team. (Louisville had a bad loss to Kentucky, but they did beat Notre Dame). This is not really a selection of the best four teams and never has been. If so Washington would not be in this year and in past years we may have seen 3 SEC teams in at certain times. FSU was robbed this year.

I’m sorry but would anyone here actually take FSU straight up with money on the line against any of the playoff teams? They would have the third best defense of the top five and the worst offense by two miles
Assuming Rodemaker is in at QB I would take FSU over Washington.

Whether somebody would bet on a team has never been a measure of whether they should be in the playoffs of any other sport. Also, upsets happen all the time - results don’t just align with priors. Just because somebody thinks it’s unlikely FSU could pull the upset doesn’t feel like a real argument for excluding them if they’ve met all the criteria for inclusion.
Also, not that I think they would be likely to win, but their defense is legitimately extremely good and they would be playing with their back-up QB in six weeks, not their third stringer.

I wouldn’t but I’d also take Georgia and Ohio St to beat Washington. It’s not right to pick and choose which criteria should be used for different teams.

Exactly. The SEC was not going to be shut out. I have zero doubt that F$U would be in if UGA had beaten Bama, as it would be the 4 unbeaten champs and Texas would be sidelined.
I have no love for Florida State, but they got screwed. But it’s college football, money and power reign over principles and merit.

FSU beat LSU by 21 at LSU. Bama beat them by 14 at Bama.

Exactly. The committee WANtED to take Bama, but they couldn’t take Bama w/o also taking Texas.
By leaving out FSU they could do that.

My point is not that FSU should be in over Washington. They should both be in. Rather if we are actually going top four teams then UGA probably should be in over Washington. But again that is not the actual result I want. I guess long run it doesn’t matter. Top 12 are in next year and no actual contenders will be left out.
