Honest question. If the ACC didn’t carry the baggage of being a soft league into this year (which given recent history was deserved), would the results on the field support the “ACC sucks” talk. The OOC results were not that bad. The teams beat up on each other. I mean it’s been brought up, but the best four teams are really Bama, UGA, Ohio State and Michigan. Texas is right there. But that is your pool of five if you are looking for the Best Four.
There are very few facts in that post, which is the point. What is used for opinions around “best” is being influenced by brand popularity, recruiting rankings, and historical trends. All factors EXCEPT what happened on the field THIS YEAR.
SOS - Yes Bama had a better average SOS. But FSU had a stronger SOR, which factors in results. Arizona State had the #1 SOS in the country. Should they be in the playoffs? Results. Matter.
FSU had to play 9 conference games against bad ACC teams? Really? FSU played more bowl eligible teams than Bama this year…and beat all of them unlike Bama. The ACC has a winning record against the SEC and BIG this year.
The one fact that you can argue on Bama’s case that is 100% defensible is that they likely had the best win between the 2 programs. UGA is pretty clearly better than LSU, Clemson, Florida, and Louisville this year based on on-the-field evidence (head to head, total record, etc.). Then again, Bama has a worse loss…because, well, they lost.
A gauntlet of SEC teams? Like A&M who got manhandled by Miami? 4-8 Arkansas who, at Bama, had the ball down 3 with 5 min to play? Auburn, who’s only win against a team above .500 was against the Samford University Bulldogs?
I’ll grant you Bama annihilated both Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga, but honestly I don’t consider those strong selling points.
Better for your mental health if you stop feeding the troll. Dude’s made the case that the 2024 18 team ACC is far inferior to the 16 team Big XII (without Texas and Oklahoma). Also made the case that the ACC winner won’t qualify for a top 4 seed in the 12 team playoff where the byes go to the top 4 ranked conference champs in the world with 4 power conferences and the G5. So yeah…
Any argument other than college football is simply WWF entertainment is disingenuous.
College basketball, pro football … that’s all.
If you threw in GLeague Teams and ignite it would be more interesting. At least you’d have the element of MAYBE we’ll see an upset here tonight. I’d rather see an in season with some euro league teams though.
I hear ya… I’ve copied one of my posts along the same lines from a few days ago…
Good skit of the CFP selection committee.
Delusional people at VT are still in the denial phase.
“I can give quotes from actual sources saying this isn’t true.”
“Then give me quotes.”
“That’s a ridiculous ask. I can’t give you quotes without betraying actual sources.”
I bet that guy (QCT) is as connected as I am, which is to say, not at all.
I think a lot of people don’t look at this through the lens of TV money–makes perfect sense to add new SEC markets to ESPN (NC and VA)
I guess I don’t really get TV money anymore with all the streaming… is it really that great since carriage rates aren’t as profitable as before? Didn’t the last few ESPN layoffs prove that?
Apparently it is and what they charge advertisers is based upon reach. Not my expertise but this is what I have read regarding expansion. That was behind the interest in adding CA and TX to ACC. (At least this is what I have read)
When it comes to TV money the market has not caught up to the reality and is certainly not anticipating the future. Yes ESPN is losing money over the carriage rates and they are struggling to find new revenue streams. But with the advent of streaming content has become king more than ever and so everyone is paying astronomical amounts for the right to broadcast live sports even if the advertising dollars coming in to cover those checks aren’t as big as they need to be. This is also convoluted thanks to the arrival of Amazon and Apple who have the ability to essentially print money to purchase content.
Interesting side note, 4 of the CFP games for next year (the 12 team bracket) have not been sold yet and will most likely get a massive price.
Let’s not question QTC too much, he’s a little more than respected journalist Pete Thamel. QTC is a Clemson Alum AND a Fan.
So QTC probably has tremendous connections…in the greater Greenville/Spartanburg area
So he gets the freshest biscuits from biscuitville?
