šŸ’€ 2023-2024 UVA men's basketball post-mortem

Its French but great story

Nah Fresh, when one’s family background has overseas ties, you damn well end up knowing every fun fact about the country; in my experience, it’s because the extended family makes sure it’s drilled into you. This is why I have an encyclopedic knowledge of famous people who are part-Filipino, including famous people who aren’t but people think they are.

ACC is the Canadian high school of America

UVa - we’ve actually got an amazing shooter who’s committed to us.

ACC - whatever. No way. What’s his name?

UVa - you wouldn’t know him. He goes to high school in Canada

Taine take:

  • defense is still not very good. Probably some improvement from getting older and being in the system longer. But still a negative
  • My main offensive issue is that he’s scared to do anything. The usage is still a major issue. He went above 20 down the stretch against two of the worst teams in the ACC and we thought he turned a corner, and then down the stretch in the tourneys he went into his corner and hid again.

Bonus Tony take - and did Tony make it clear to him that’s an unacceptable way to play UVa hoops and bench his butt or did he play him 20+ minutes in all 3 tourney games and 25+ in 2 of 3.

Is it some big mystery why our guys are scared of their own shadow on offense when guys who are scared of their own shadow get rewarded with lots of PT?

A: no, of course it isn’t.

Bonus Taine take - would Taine be good on offense if he weren’t playing for a coach who rewards guys who are afraid of their own shadow? I think so and I hope so, but it’s really up to Tony (and not his assistants- don’t blame his friggin assistants) if we even get a chance to test the hypothesis

Tony - continue evolving the offense the way NBA has.

He’s transferring and Dante is staying. This confirms it.

Ugh, well, there’s the pitch.

Pitino: ā€œI might threaten to throw you in the East River but I promise to never make you do weird foot stuffā€

I forgot to give y’all an update on my ā€œsprained ankleā€ from celebrating on selection sunday. I actually broke my foot LMAO. In a boot for the foreseeable future. Just for our mediocre-ass team to score 42 points two days later. I feel like Tony should owe me something

Just me, or is the 23-24 season schematic about ready to give us the finger?
