Very much needed and hoping coaches don’t find many, if any loopholes.
We don’t have any commits past 2026 but some have several 2027. I think I’ve seen some 2028 kids enter commitments at PG but hard to know if those were valid since it’s self reporting and false commits do get entered there.
Oh it’s actually probably over 200 times at this point it feels like. Has me wondering if the kid is nuts or if it’s a glitch on their site trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
This is just like last year, but the slide started 8-10 games later this year.
After game 25 last year, we were No. 1 offensively and No. 2 in pitching. Wheels fell off on both, just as they’re doing now.
And we’re losing series to mediocre teams. VPI is on the bubble and Pitt and Notre Dame weren’t even in the conversation.
And Gelof and Teel are now either XBH or K on every AB these days, and they combined for, what?, one hit in this series. Just poor baseball for the past month.
Hoos go 2-0 in the midweek this week with wins over Liberty last night and Towson tonight.
The Liberty game was a 7 to 4 win. The Hoos fell behind 4-0 and Liberty was throwing a perfect game with two pitchers through 5. The Hoos doubled to open the 6th and rolled from there.
UVA beat Towson 13 to 4 tonight. Towson hit a solo homer in Top 1 but the Hoos added 3 runs in Bottom 1 and led the rest of the way. It was 8 to 4 UVA at the start of Bottom 8. The Hoos added 5 insurance runs to get to the final margin. Kyle Teel was player of the game with 5 hits which tied the season high for UVA with Ethan Anderson’s 5 last week at VCU.
struck out 7 in 5 innings in his first AAA start. only gave up 3 hits, 2 earned runs (i think he got taken deep in his last inning). Still, great start.
Baseball is at the exam break now with a week off before hosting Radford next Wednesday.
They’re 37-11 overall and 12-11 in the ACC. RPI is currently 11th. As an aside, the top 15 in the RPI consists of 6 SEC teams, 6 ACC teams, 1 Big 12 team (West Va), 1 Sun Belt team (Coastal Carolina), and 1 Missouri Valley team (Indiana State).
If the ACC Tournament started today, the Hoos would be the 6th seed overall and the 2nd seed in Pool C. Pool C’s top seed would be Miami who is the currently the 3 seed in the tourney. Louisville would be the third team in Pool C as the 10 seed in the tourney. The Hoos are 3-0 vs Miami and host Louisville next weekend.
UVA is 2-0 this week with wins over VCU (11-6) and JMU (9-8) after dropping 2 of 3 to Duke over the weekend. In each instance, the bullpen made the game much more difficult than it needed to be. Against VCU, the bullpen turned a 2-1 lead into a 5-2 deficit but the offense immediately surged back ahead 8-5 over the course of two at bats. Against JMU, the bullpen turned a 8-0 lead into a 9-8 hold on for dear life win as the Dukes had the tying run at 2nd and the go ahead run at 1st with 1 out in Top 9. A costly error by O’Ferrall in the 8th and one by Gelof in the 9th did not help matters.
Gelof appears to be slowly coming out of a prolonged slump as a few other bats are heating up to match the always steady and nearly always hot bats from O’Ferrall and Teel. We could really use the entire offense operating on all cylinders to overcome the current pitching difficulties.
Karl - so in baseball the seeding committee still relies heavily (or exclusively) on RPI unlike basketball where they have newer methods? If so that benefits us as we’re ranked much lower by some others. D1 Baseball has us #20 and in the US Today coaches poll we’re #12.
I just hope we can finish strongly enough that we get to host a regional and ideally a super-regional.
