Not enough post or perimeter scoring, we will be in the middle of the pack in the ACC. We really need an outstanding offensive post player and two deadly snipers in the portal or it’s going to be scores in the 50’s like it was when TB was trying to turn the problem around. That line up u posted just want be enough
We won 23 games (including 10 of our last 11) and finished second in the ACC in 2020 with Woldo as our only sniper. That included wins against Florida State, Louisville and Duke, all of whom were ranked. And iMac is a much better shooter than Woldo.
Yes, scores were in the 50s. Certainly wasn’t pretty. And the beginning of the season was painful. But so what? You know what they say about wins: It doesn’t matter how you get them, it just matters how many.
Even if we don’t add a single player from the portal (and I certainly hope we do), I’m not ready to throw in the towel before I even see the team take the floor.
agreed!
That team was incredibly lucky and was very well sitting on the bubble before it pulled out a lot of close wins. There’s a reason the metrics don’t think that team was very good.
I’ll quote Bill Parcells: You are what your record says you are.
The 2020 team was on the bubble because it struggled early, which you would expect when you lost almost all your scoring and everyone is being asked to step up into new, unfamiliar roles. By the end of the year, though, they were a legitimately dangerous team. Winning 10 of 11 games – mostly against good competition – is not a fluke. I think it’s highly likely next year’s team experiences a similar trajectory.
let’s be real…
everything from 2020 til 2022 is completely worthless when it comes to comparing or diss’n .
Covid cancelled 2020 & we lost so many studs!
2021, more of the same… games here, games there… no fans.
2022, we missed the dance… yep… 1 outta ten or so ain’t bad esp after all the BS of the last two season that had zero to do with our team.
This year imo was the first real season since we won it all.
and we were using (as most teams) the cards we were dealt from the last couple years.
It was what it was (& is).
I’m sorry to say & I love 99% of all my LRA fam but to those that keep quoting the “last couple years” for anything just imo, want to be mad or a debbie downer…
just my opinion…
nothing but love …
It won one of those games by double digits and only two additional by more than one possession
With McKneely, Murray, Bond, and Gertrude already on the roster, the need for more wings isn’t that pressing. Furthermore, with those players returning, few potential transfers could see a clear path to significant playing time. At the same time, the needs of the front court are far more obvious. At least one C/PF is needed. Possibly two. And, until Beekman’s final decision is known, I imagine they’re staying in close touch with primary ball handlers. I suspect that the transfer portal is a pretty hectic place, when not in a recruiting dead period. It has to create challenges for the staff. Their resources aren’t unlimited, so I would think they’re focusing on the more obvious needs. Especially when it is easier to sell the opportunities on the front line as opposed to the wing.
Gertrude
McKneely
Rohde
Dunn
Minor
Dante Harris 6th man
Bond
Stevenson
Buchanan
Would be a fun 9 man rotation.
That’s a backcourt by committee and I like that idea. You have 3 guards who can create their own off the dribble. But I really see no scenario where Harris doesn’t start.
If we land Rohde, I see a lineup like this:
- Harris
- McKneely
- Rohde
- Dunn
- Minor
Bench:
- Bond
- Transfer big
- Gertrude
- Buchanan
- Murray
That’s 10 scholarship players which is Tony’s sweet spot. Reece comes back and we’re rolling but not doomed if he doesn’t
Not sure if I missed an update in here, but saw on Twitter where Robert Jennings is returning to Texas Tech
yea, he did… it will all come to light soon…
It was in the post mortem thread instead of this thread
WRT transfers: How appealing is Virginia to a wing transfer who can help? There is no clear path to significant playing time. You have to believe that most transfers are looking for that immediate PT and are not interested in long term development. UVa’s wings are pretty congested at the moment. How much time should the staff devote to this when there are more pressing needs?
with academics & the NIL…( being a secret for whatever reason) …
I’d say not very appealing unless…unless!
you understand CTB and what his system & what he himself brings to the table…
he develops and if there is any question which player should get a “chance” in the NBA…well, then I think it has been proven that his kids get looked at close to first (if not, first).
“All coming to light soon?” I’m intrigued, scared and excited all at the same time…but mostly scared.
However, that appeal is contingent on the player getting court time. He has to be playing in games to get any attention from the NBA. He won’t get it sitting on the bench. At the moment, there is no clear path to playing time on Virginia’s wings. And, I don’t think transfers are looking for development. They’re looking for immediate playing time.
