Not sure where to put this, but since we were recently having some Auburn fun here, I felt bad for this guy
Until I saw this:

I liked Shedrick but I’m at the point now where I hope UVA gets to play Texas and homeboy gets rekt on all front. Needs a little humble pie from Tony
I think he’s ragging on Traudt because he can’t play defense or is surprised at it. I’m okay with this…
If there are two things that will trigger UVA boards it’s 1) Duke basketball recruiting successes and 2) out transfer social media posts
If anyone doesn’t want to see someone’s content I would strongly recommend using the ignore feature. It’s easily accessible
The problem is I actually enjoy a majority of the content that most of those posters put out. If I could filter out those specific posts I would in a heartbeat. But I can’t, so I’ll keep pointing that it’s stupid to wonder why top players want to play for one of the three most successful basketball programs of the century
I get it. Im not questioning that. I certainly understand why tons of guys go to Duke. Not that you should give a crap what I think, but I do believe coming to the defense of Duke is not something that will be responded well to lol. So don’t say you weren’t warned.
I’m used to not being well liked on this board. I just get frustrated by the really obvious questions. Wondering why TJ Power picked Duke is interesting. Wondering why top-5 recruits like Flagg select Duke (if he does) is not. Wondering if Duke is going to end up in a good conference during realignment is interesting. Wondering why ESPN covers Duke so frequently is not.
The questions that aren’t very interesting and are frustrating to me have pretty obvious answers. They just get brought up here because the answers are annoying and inconvenient to UVA fans
I get ya 100%.
I think “why did Power choose Duke” uninteresting as well. I find, “how much will he play next year at Duke” interesting.
Or perhaps all of this is just very tiresome.
We were the only non-Duke team to get a vote!
That’s a fair question (Cuse’s defense), and I don’t really know, but I try not to let that stop me from typing. Some guesses:
Concerns:
I agree with those points, I probably am underrating the positive boost to defense that comes with losing Girard (though I think his shortcomings are accentuated in the zone in some ways). I am not a big fan of zones as primary defenses (or really a big fan of them in general besides select matchup zone approaches), but it did let them opt out of having to do things like figure out pick-and-roll coverage.
They do have a high density of guys who were high-ranked HS recruits and have underperformed their rankings so far (excepting Maliq Brown, who has exceeded his). I understand why that would lead to optimism about how much their team can improve. But I’m in the mood to be a hater.
Cuse’s roster this upcoming season with 2022-23 stats and a hypothetical starting lineup in bold/italics:
| Returners | G Judah Mintz (SO) | 32 G, 33.5 mpg, 16.3 ppg, 4.6 apg, 30% 3P% |
| SF Chris Bell (SO) | 30 G, 20 mpg, 6.6 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 35% 3P% | |
| SF Justin Taylor (SO) | 29 G, 16.7 mpg, 4.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 39% 3P% | |
| F Benny Williams (JR) | 30 G, 22.3 mpg, 7.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 40% 3P% | |
| F Quadir Copeland (SO) | 20 G, 9.3 mpg, 2.1 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 11% 3P% | |
| PF Maliq Brown (SO) | 29 G, 20.2 mpg, 5.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 70% FG% | |
| C Mounir Hima (JR) | 27 G, 7.4 mpg, 1 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 46% FG% | |
| Additions | G Kyle Cuffe (4-star RS FR) | 2 G, 3 mpg, 0 ppg, 0 apg, 0% 3P% |
| G/F JJ Starling (SO Transfer, Notre Dame) | 28 G, 29.7 mpg, 11.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 30% 3P% | |
| SF Chance Westry (RS SO Transfer, Auburn) | 11 G, 9.5 mpg, 2.5 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 0% 3P% | |
| C Naheem McLeod (RS SR Transfer, Florida State) | 28 G, 13.1 mpg, 3.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 55% FG% | |
| C William Patterson (3-star FR) |
There are a lot of talented, intriguing pieces in the backcourt between Mintz, Bell (formerly Bunch), Taylor, Williams, Starling, Cuffe, and Westry. Not enough minutes to go around, even if they play small with Benny Williams at the 4. Zero presence at the 5-spot, McLeod , Patterson, and Hima are all underwhelming. I do wonder if they go true-small and put Maliq Brown at the 5 which is honestly maybe their most dangerous lineup, then lets them spread the floor. Defense will be sporadic, rebounding will be as well, but the offense should be dangerous with athleticism and good size across the perimeter. Obviously an uptick in 3-point shooting from the guards would be helpful without Girard spacing the floor. Lot to ask from a team with a lot of unproven faces and some new systems… I think they could be okay this year, but probably a year away from taking the next step into a league contender.
Hadn’t kept up with their roster at all. They could be really good in a couple years if they hang on to everyone and add a key piece or two
We’re handing out cake left and right in August. Appreciate you guys @uva123 @Foresthoo
