I would hope he would want to play for the coaches who believed in him
should clarify its from when he was first hired.
Can we check on the guy who was like âKenny Payne will have his revenge next yearâ at the end of last season?
Ha. Looks like a troll job by a MSU fan, right? The people saying in the replies âItâs true, I was thereâ have named like 5 different schools they supposedly lost to.
Gotta be. The âplayerâ quote was too much
I keep hearing the national âexpertsâ say that Syracuse is the most underrated team in the ACC and is definitely the big Sleeper. I look at their roster and donât see a lot outside of Judah Mintz; am I missing something? How do they replace Girardâs 3-point shooting? Is Starling good? I honestly donât know. One such unnamed âexpertâ suggested their backcourt will be better than ours, which strikes me as completely absurd. Lots of question, but I donât see it and think those of you who are very good at analytics can clarify this.
BTW, the same âexpertsâ in this particular case said that Miami is the most overrated team in the ACC. Iâm not sure I disagree with this.
Guards: People love Judah Mintz, and heâs a heck of a player. 8th best assist rate in the league last year, 3rd best steal rate, 4th best fouls-drawn rate. Heâs a volume scorer so his percentages arenât elite, and his 3-point shooting needs work. But otherwise heâs a pretty sure thing. Next to him JJ Starling has a lot of buzz but his freshman year at ND was pretty mediocre; that said he had NBA hype out of HS and lord knows South Bendâs locker room was a disaster last year so not sure if itâs more about Brey having lost the ability to coach.
Lots of options at the wing between Chris Bunch (Bell), Justin Taylor, Benny Williams, and Auburn transfer Chance Westry. Maliq Brown is solid at the 4. Very unimpressive at the 5-spot. Think their best lineup is actually going to be Maliq at the 5, Benny at the 4, and then spread the floor.
Obviously the defense and rebounding are going to be wildly erratic, which probably caps their ceiling.
Cuse is gonna be very interesting. Good talent but wide range of outcomes especially with new coach / new systems.
This interview with Steven Adams is so amazingâŚhearing him talk you would never know he was such a freaking beast on the floor⌠I remember seeing YouTube videos of several nba players talking about having to box him out as soon as shot went upâŚor else he was going to get the reboundâŚsaying he was a tough summabeatchâŚ
I donât think I knew he was a lotter pick. Hes a total Kiwi. Love his attitude.
Non con opponent Memphis checks in at #33 in the 3MW top 40 countdown
Memphis is such a wild card for right now. They did get David Jones on campus finally; he had to finish up summer school at St Johns to graduate before he could grad-transfer. I understand Jordan Brown should be doing the same. It looks like Malcolm Dandridge is pulling his name out of the Portal to come back for his 5th year. Thereâs nothing new on DeAndre Williamsâ eligibility question, nor Mikey Williamsâ legal problems.
All-in-all, theyâve gotten a few breaks the last few weeks with Brown and Jones reporting, Wichita Stateâs Jaykwon Walton a last minute inbound transfer, and Dandridgeâs surprise return. All that makes them a good team and AAC contender with Mills and Quinerly up top.
But DeAndre Williams is the difference maker, maybe the best player in the AAC and the best player weâd face in the non-conference. Also the oldest player in D-1 I believe at 26 or 27. If they can get him eligible too, then theyâre pretty fierce, I just donât think weâll be able to defend them. No idea the timetable for his determination.
There are a lot of roster question marks for sure, but that backcourt (1-3), at least as projected in this preview, features three guys who have been really really inefficient, while having shooting% 25% + (per KonPom - measures how often they are taking their teamâs shots â so 20% is roughly par). Quinerly at least has one efficient year in his career. But Mills always stood out in a negative way, to me, on FSU, and Iâm not as familiar with Jones, but his numbers are not great. Two straight years of shooting 100+ threes without breaking 30%.
But, the three of them are all older, dynamic guards, with plenty of power 5 experience. Tough challenge for the non-Reece portion of our guard rotation. And Mills and Jones have some size.
Hoos will make Memphis look silly
Does Walton need a waiver?
