No idea how important he is to Texas A&M. Also no idea how one can transfer with classes starting
So strange
Not at all, avg 15mpg and 2ppg
Bum Phillips once said of Don Shula, âHe can take hisân and beat yourân, and take yourân and beat hisân.â
Unless he can prove differently this year, Iâd say Hubert is the exact opposite of Shula.
My favorite Bum quote on Earl Campbell not being able to run a mile ânext time it is 4th and a mile we wont give it to Campbellâ
Likely found out in workouts that he isnât as good as others coming for his minutes.
I guess Dylan Harper hates his grandparents. Or Bill Self is gonna let them use tbe private jet
Rutgers is just such a tough bet if his goal is the NBA. Yeah maybe heâs so good it doesnât matter. But still is Rutgers the right place to spend your OAD year? Why not just go to Ignite or OTE? If the goal is to have the most high-profile or the winningest one year in college, then a blue blood makes way more sense.
Think of Anthony Edwards, #1 recruit in the 2019 class, going to play for Tom Crean at Georgia. Averaged 19 ppg on a team that went 5-13 in the SEC then went #1 in the NBA Draft. Yeah he made the league, but what a miserable year that mustâve been. Who likes losing and not being on TV when you can be on a winning team and be on TV all the time?
I think Rutgers plays/ teaches really good defense. And his dad had said Rutgers would be a gift to the grandparents who took him around to practices and such growing up⌠proly 45 minute ls from where they live
But I am with you. South Brunswick no thanks
Edit. Just over an hour ha
Rutgers is a bit different than the utter shitshow that was that UGA team but I think your point remains. The track record of top-5 guys going to programs that arenât blue bloods is pretty bad
Rutgers has been pretty solid the past few years though. Theyâve had a winning record for four seasons in a row and made the NCAA tournament two years (and NIT last year). I get your point, but they arenât playing bad basketball. Feels less risky to me than a Georgia or Oregon St or something. Coaching staff seems fairly well thought of and they have a good track record at this point.
I agree with all that, Rutgers has quietly become competent at basketball, and is a lot more likely than, say, GA, to âdo no harmâ at the very least.
On the other hand⌠my brother went to Rutgers and I visited him there a couple times. If I knew I was going to spend one year in college and could do it anywhere that had a competent basketball program, New Brunswick would not be where I would pick in a vacuum.
But, heâs not picking in a vacuum, heâd be choosing to be close to his grandparents which I could totally see. My older daughter just wrapped up a college summer internship. She had a couple choices and picked the one that, while maybe not the best for career options, was close to family and let her stay with my parents for the summer (they had space and thereâs a back door so she could come and go without disturbing anyone). It worked out great all around and everyone was really happy with it. It also helped that it was in Southern CA.
But zero pressure for a year of college ⌠probably BMOC and enjoyable in all aspects off the court.
And no real pressure in any games.
How different would Harper going to Rutgers be compared to Cade Cunningham going to Oklahoma State? OK St hadnât made the NCAAT in Boyntonâs three seasons before Cade got there.
Which to me is a red flag about his desire to win. Iâm not saying you need to pick Duke or Kansas, but at the same time at least somewhere with a realistic shot to be competitive for your one year there. At least if youâre a 3-4 year guy you can argue youâre going to try and build something, but a one year guy knows whether or not that team is staying home in March.
Iâm sure those 5 star guys are BMOC at any basketball school⌠UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, and get plenty of perks regardless. As far as âno pressure to win,â like, what 5-star is afraid of pressure to win?
When you get to the Final 4 and ball out like Caleb was doing against dook, plus youâre from Carolina you definitely get the benefit of the doubt. He was a 6â4 combo guard and slasher that shined brightest when the lights were on. He was at worst a late first round pick.
Nah that doesnât count for anything when you get exposed in pre draft workouts.
