2023 Off-Season Basketball - Outside UVa

Austin is overrated, IMO. It’s gone from a big college town to a big city. It’s fun, no doubt, but not what it was 10+ years ago. Just look at South Congress Street. Gone are hole in the wall bars with live music… now you have Sweetgreen and Lululemon’s galore.

Coach Terry: Listen Kadin, all that stuff about Unity, Humility, Thankfulness… we don’t do that here

Shedrick: That’s ok coach I didn’t do it at Virginia either

I interpreted that he was saying he was held back from what he was capable of doing.

That’s cool…I get it. I was just having a little laugh at his expense.

Having said that, his statement was false.

Not saying he’s right or wrong. Just saying he was statistically probably our 2nd best player last year, and I thought Tony should have let him play through early foul trouble and waited too long to go back to him after the BVP experiment went tits up.

Now, I don’t know what went on behind the scenes from a personality standpoint, and there were clearly some rumors there post-UNC.

Wouldn’t be shock to see an all-Big 12 type year from him. He has more 1 year potential than any big on our roster…

Im pretty high on Buchanan. Kadin’s issue is that he had the lower body of a wing and maybe have been better off playing the 4 for us alongside a strong rebounding big, since he has the quickness to guard on the perimeter. But at the same time his 3pt shot was also not as consistent for a stretch 4 type. I think Ryan Dunn is a better version of what Kadin’s best fit would be (athletic and mobile 4 man).

I think Kadin was at his best in a pick & roll / rim runner role. His rebounding wasn’t bad - he was 2nd on the team in DR% (behind Dunn) and 2nd on the team in OR% (behind Gardner).

Tony went away from him when he wanted to play inside triangle because he wasn’t a fit for that offense. He was our best post player in either sides or our ball screen offense, which he combined with Beekman to win the the Vegas tourney.

Agree that I like Buchanan long term, but Kadin would have been the best post on our roster this upcoming season. We lost through the portal there.

His individual rebounding numbers flatter him a little, the on-off stats paint a more negative picture of his rebounding. With him on, opponents rebounded 29.3% of their misses compared to 21.7% with him off.

I’m guessing that’s because he went for the block so often and had a 8 percentage pt+ greater block rate than our other centers. So his block rate roughly offsets the team decline in defensive rebounding.

I know this is the outside UVa thread and Kadin did take a shot at the program, but can we please please please stop wasting time talking about the dude?

OI was looking to see if tickets are available yet for games at NC State and Wake as I try to go to all UVA games in NC. Found I could get season tickets at NC State for $254… slightly considering it as a family outing … not bad considering would get UVA, Duke and UNC games included.
Can get single game UVA tix at each place right now for under $40 … likely will just do that.

p.s. - Also just saw that the Hall of Fame day in Charlotte is as low as $29 right now … score!

Where did you see the $29 for Charlotte?

You provide a softball interview with Audry to demonstrate Mintz and Starling – who haven’t played one minute together – are a better duo than Reece and IMac? A first-year coach talks; a Hall of Fame coach does.

Also, defense?

Saw on social media Coach Vandross posted that his daughter committed to Pitt for Women’s lax. Good stuff.

Hopefully more time for locking down recruits now
