these two highlights pretty much sum up David Punch. was shooting 37% from 3 on modest volume prior to peach jam. My pro comp is Larry Nance Jr. UVA comp would be Anthony Gill mixed with some anderson but more developed 3pt shooting wise/ Forward-wing but also embraces small ball center a lot.
I REALLY like Punch as a player, especially if he can step out and hit some 3’s. He’s not a stereotypical stretch 4 that would maybe be a better fit but I still think he provides enough energy and athleticism to be an awesome frontcourt player next to guys like Bliss, Gertrude, and Rohde. He would also be a significantly better rebounder than a guy like Hodge on day one, which is something that I would add as a major plus given our struggles in that department the past couple of years.
Main concern with him is the FT shooting. It’s been ugly this summer and not a case where he just needed a bigger sample size to get back on track like Bliss, he was at 51% on 72 attempts before this week and then went 7/20 from the line at Peach Jam. If he’s gonna be the next Gill or Larry Nance Jr. he’s gotta get that number up to at least 65-70%, otherwise he becomes a liability in late game situations.
Who would be our main competition for Punch if we went all in? Seems like a bit of a late riser, so maybe it’s TBD with offers coming in post-Peach Jam.
“We’re going through everything school by school and we’re going to prioritize everything after the Virginia visit and see if it’s necessary” to take other visits,” said Odell, who starred at Old Dominion, where Matt has already visited this summer.
Lol September 21st? We are literally going to have zero commits for the 24 class during the 23 calendar year. Yes I’m going back to it. Zero. Or as the French would say, zero, but with a French accent.
