Worked for Rocky!

I don’t watch the NBA and I know it’s a dated reference but Jason Williams is one of the best passers I’ve ever seen. That kind of passing takes uber elite vision.
Something I’m sure he has because he’s from Belle, WV. Pop: 1,146.
Also, the remix is fantastic. And 70 year olds shouldn’t be wearing skinny slacks.
Yup. NYC stereotype check:
And Haneys walking while they type LRA posts among the people
I don’t know where to put this, but F68 – yes, I hate them as much as anyone here, which is why I won’t link the video – dropped their “offseason grade” of UVA today. It’s a hit piece, of course, but they did say something I found amusing. Ya, apparently, “Reece! is no star. He isn’t really a great all-around player…he is just barely good enough to play in the ACC.” I only mention that because it is so absurd it is completely laughable. They didn’t even know how to pronounce Rhode’s name.
Anyway, it’s there if you want to waste 20 minutes of your time listening to two a-holes talk about a roster they didn’t even take time to research before their pathetic show.
Okay. I won’t mention them again…please don’t dogpile me!

The best way I have of understanding those guys is that they blow where the wind is blowing - and try to blow just a little harder, no pun intended.
It’s out of vogue to like Virginia because we underperformed in March and struggled down the stretch, plus lost some familiar guys. Therefore, the Field of 68 guys are going to say we won’t be very good, and probably take it a step further (Reece isn’t good either) for a sprinkling of hot take sauce.
That’s what they do for all teams. Gotta get them clicks.
Thats what losers do.. blow. Well said and thanks for the heads up and synopsis @wahoobelinda
You are right about the clicks, for sure. It’s sufficient to note that their knowledge about our team is woefully lacking in substance.
I can’t wait for Reece! to shut all of them up once and for all.
We already knew on these guys but saying Reece!! Isnt a star or whatever is enough to know they are useless
I gave it a benefit-of-the-doubt listen because I am super optimistic about the upcoming season, so seeking out a doom and gloom perspective is of slight interest to me. But then one of the dudes literally said, “If you are looking for some, like, really insightful analysis into Virginia basketball and the state that it’s in right now, you’ve came to the wrong place.”
It’s a waste of time. Which is a shame because someone could have a good conversation about the questions that surround this team if they put in the effort.
Agreed. That is why it was the one topic I pulled from their “analysis.” If they made those comments about Reece! then you know everything else they had to say was equally stupid.
If you want a good conversation about the questions that surround UVa, there are many good places to do that – like here for example.
If you want to get a rough sense of where national pundits** are pegging UVa based on very very little research, then that offseason grades series is a good place for that.
“But why would I want that?” you might ask – I don’t know. I don’t know your preferences and how you all like to spend your time, but I enjoy things like that more than whatever other sports or entertainment content I could currently consume, but tastes vary.
** I am glad the field of 68 exists, and defending them is a completely unproductive endeavor around here, but even I will say this series is basically only of value to remember offseason movement for teams you don’t follow that closely. Even to get a rough sense of UVa from a national / regional perspective, they would have needed to have TO and/or Randolph Childress. Dauster is busy doing everything and can mostly be relied on only for Big East takes these days, and Waddell is basically a Big Ten guy dressed up as a national guy, but he’s their jack of all trades, because it’s mid-August, and nobody is paying attention to this stuff other than us die hards.
*** I guess I just get annoyed because people don’t seem to like content that paints UVa in a less than positive light, but the bottom line is we have been an aggressively mediocre program since we won the natty in terms of anything that would hit a national radar, and those of you who are thinking “But we won 2 ACC regular season championships, doesn’t that mean anything”, well … I mean … you don’t really need to me answer that, do you?
I get it, which is why I have been watching this series. My issue is not with listening to people who have criticisms of us at all. I am, however, annoyed that the criticisms of our program are not researched, thought out, and generally informed.
Yeah, that’s fair. But I guess that’s why I follow UVa sources – for that stuff. I don’t expect much insight from national sources.
But I think you need to read/view/listen to the national stuff to have better context for the UVa stuff.
Oh, I follow the convos on here and enjoy them, I just think we’re all a bit too close to the subject with our love/affection/homerism/whatever-adjective to be able to give a sober account (positive or negative) about Virginia basketball. So seeing some outside perspectives is a good thing, in my opinion.
I’m more annoyed about the Field of 68 grade video because these dudes are paid to follow and analyze college basketball, and they didn’t do the work other than taking a cursory glance at UVa’s roster and making the same stale, tired jokes everyone does. They didn’t respect their audience.
They are right about one thing: Tony IS the most handsome coach in college basketball! ![]()
And, no, I don’t expect you guys to have an opinion about that!
By you? By me? I have paid for the Almanac, and enjoyed it. I got this content for free after fast forwarding through a few youtube videos. I guess google pays them a few pennies.
Again - I am mostly (not, by this point) surprised that we are all college hoops fans, and very very very few outlets do any college hoops content in August, especially for free, and the reaction is “cmon, do your homework”, and not “hey, thanks! Free stuff of what I really enjoy and don’t find much of this time of year!”. But once again, I’m just a big old softee…
Okay, gonna channel my time into something more useful (Work, you say? No. How dare you?).
How about a vibe check?
ACC finish:
Tourney:
There are 358 D1 teams. More than 335 of them would like a resume from 2020-23 that included two 4-seeds and a 2020 season that would have been somewhere in the 4-6 range. If that’s your definition of “aggressively mediocre,” I’ll take it.
Also, those pundits are still talking about us. They’re not talking Wake or ND or Syracuse. Or Louisville, except to laugh at how awful they’ve gotten post-Crum and Pitino.
EDIT: But I do agree that, comparatively, UVa from 2020-23 is aggressively mediocre (or bad) compared with 2014-19.
