No idea if they graduated in the winter or last year.
I, too, have missed out on experiences to punish others and certainly regret the decisions now. However, I canât imagine anyone persuading me to act differently at the time. Sorry to see it got so ugly in this instance.
Yep - graduated in 2020 during Covid and never got to walk the lawn, if it were possible to express the feelings, I wish I could. Graduating from Virginia is so special and walking the lawn is a tradition like few others
Loved the week leading up to graduation. Beach week, I guess, right?
I enjoyed the actual walking of the lawn itself. The rest of that weekend stank. âIâm Howard Baker. You might remember me from some boring political scandal that happened before you were born. I know youâre hungover and youâre eager to get back to trying to herd the cats of your family around town as they complain about everything, but indulge me while I speak for 45 minutes that you wonât remember in 5 minutes, never mind 5 yearsâŚâ Pass.
Thats brutal man
Lol, sorry! I shouldâve read yours before I wrote my negative diatribe. A year or two before me there was a friggin tragedy at graduation (one of the pavilion balconies collapsed), so it can always be worse.
I just want everyone to know how lucky it is to be at uva while theyâve got it. And itâs why Reece!! needs to come back too
but Reece!! Aint comin back
This guy worked on this nice speech on the sweep of history since the year of 1000 and thankless 22 year old Haney just sat there hungover in the sun, wishing there were a âwrap it upâ button.

Yeah well we had a video of yo yo ma playing Appalachian spring and I cried on my childhood couch because it felt like the world was falling apart so idk
I was at that one standing just across the pavilion that collapsed. My mom was walking as part of the administration. Thatâs a more vivid memory to me of a graduation than my own walking out of mine early years later.
Hahahahahahahhaah. Man i cant quit laughing. I didnt even know Yo Yo Mah was real
Thatâs nice! I love Tony standing next to Papi. I donât think the extra inch he is always trying to get helps him much.
I walked the lawn with Sheehy and my man Pizza Manca. Hot Af
'87, @CavTex ? It was so damn hot, the dye from my gown bled onto my shirt and ruined it. And, @haney, Iâll see your Howard Baker and raise you a Liddy Dole. She basically read her resume for 45 minutes on the hottest day in the history of the world.
Walking the Lawn is a very special memory for me. Nothing to color it with, just a statement.
I too hope that KadinâsâŚissues donât keep him from having the same memory. And thatâs the closest i can come to being kind to him. Oh well.
All I remember was that the speaker was a Senator from Tennessee. Couldnât remember the name. Had no idea why he was at all relevant. Also, I fell asleep maybe 5 minutes in and drifted in and out of consciousness throughout.
Then went to hot Mem Gym for my department ceremony where Larry Sabato mispronounced my name.
Ha! Slaughter for me. I went to Econ because I had more buddies graduating Econ, but worse location and longer walk.
Insanely hot! Pretty sure it was like 150 on the lawn that day
'89 was over 100F. I think that one day gave me a kidney stone.
