Working out in sweat pants is impressive on the court.

For those who know Kenny Turner used to practice in a sweat shirt

We shall see but I think so. Still has lot to work on

I’m back in town for a few days to check on the home remodel without my wife, so I’m dining alone. The couple next to me notices my Virginia pullover, and asks me if I’m a fan of Tony Bennett. Long story short, they are both from Wisconsin. The guy went to UW, the girl played basketball at Stevens Point, where Jack Bennett was coaching at the time–and she dated his son Nick.

They’re big fans of the Bennetts and, despite some annoyance with Tony’s recruiting, say they’re pulling for us with all of our Wisconsin guys. Oh, and they said pretty much everyone in Wisconsin seems to have a connection to the Bennetts.

I politely refrained from responding, “Tell me something I don’t know!”

Kind of a longer version of the “Tony got mad the other day” story, but with some additional quotes and bits here and there

His view of Minor vs. Groves/Buchanan mins early on feels wildly different than what has been discussed here. We’ll know in a week!

Who are your top two candidates for the first to higlight dunk all over someone this year? This is for first instance in the season, not most regularly

  • Ryan Dunn
  • Reece Beekman
  • Jordan Minor
  • Elijah Gertrude
  • Blake Buchanan
  • Isaac McKneely
  • Andrew Rohde
  • Leon Bond
  • Dante Harris
  • Taine Murray
  • Jacob Groves

I’m offended at the lack of Desmond “Green Team God” Roberts not being on this list.

Jk it’ll probably be Dunn catching a lob against some mid major if I had to guess.

oof- good call, that’s a big omission on my part

edit - especially because that’s one of the better choices. My bad DR!

One thing I’ve noticed with their preview content is they keep giving ball handling as a reason for Harris over Rohde. I don’t think that’s correct. Think Rohde is more secure with the ball. Harris was pretty turnover prone at Georgetown and haven’t heard anything to suggest he’s fixed that

I think it’s all reasoning backwards from Kihei.

  • If you think Tony liked Kihei + Reece because it gave him 2 ballhandlers, then you might think that means lots of Harris.
  • If you think Tony liked Kihei + Reece because it helped minimize turnovers, then you might think that means less of Harris.
  • If you think Tony liked Kihei + Reece because Kihei was a just good enough shooter, then you might be skeptical of Harris.
  • If you think, like me, that the reasons that Tony liked Kihei + Reece were a bit idiosyncratic and inscrutable, then you are excited for tip off, because you’re not really sure what to think.

(I just listed a few Kihei attributes / Harris attributes, but you could keep going. On ball defense, etc.)

You are missing part of what Tony liked. Tony loved Kiehei but needed Reece!!

Yeah, was gonna say something like that but I had already typed enough. Tony really loved Kihei, and like any love, it’s hard to really set down to logic or specific attributes. We shall soon see how much Tony loves Harris.

If Dante proves to fill certain roster needs and TB loves him, we will see plenty of Dante and Reece!! I think

I don’t think Tony has an irrational love for short, quick point guards. I think he played Reece and Kihei together because there weren’t a whole lot of other options.
