I mean rohde has to sit sometimes no?
Yeah, and Iām betting we see a good chunk of Harris-Reece-iMac in those instances.
Stat geeks. Groves had a 8.2% assist rate is that good?
NVM - BVP was at 11.6% in '23.
Can Bond play the 4? Could open things up a little. I guess same question for Taine but assume the answer is no
Bond and Taine can both play small-ball 4, I anticipate both having the opportunity to split time between the 4 and 3. That said, at the 4 spot, they have to beat out both Dunn and Groves (whoās way more naturally a 4 than a 5) for minutes, so I think we only sub small at the 4 when facing other smaller minutes (that Groves will have trouble covering).
Bond is no taller than 6-5. Would have to be a pinch I would think.
Bond exclusively played power forward in HS/AAU. Heās been working on his guard skills for the last year, shooting ball handling etc. A big reason for his redshirt. And he can defend anybody. But itās a work in progress. Heās more of a natural small four, expect heāll play a lot of guard later in his career though.
Groves not really a good rebounder or assister. Very much a classic shooting stretch 4. Best case is 4th year Nolte with same defense, and a better 3P% and volume.
They are not comparable players. Groves is nothing like BVP - he is a spacer and shooter. BVP has never been that.
Given our wealth of guards and wings, I wouldnāt be surprised to see some weird small ball lineups, doing what we have to do in order to get our talent on the floor. I expect Tony will do a lot of experimenting early on, and anyone who even arguably could play the 4, will get trotted out at the 4 at some point.
Man I hope thatās true. That would make for a fun November-December before things inevitably settle in.
Hilarious ⦠3 best guys hurt and best big was throwing up all game 7 - but carry on man.
Missed this part
I think WVU could be pretty good. It seems like they did well in the transfer market and while I think Huggins is a good coach, it doesnāt seem like the system they have is too difficult to pick up. Itās similar to VCUās Havoc right? (Or have they changed in the last couple years).
I want to see what a Rohde Gertrude McKneely Bond Dunn lineup looks like. A lineup with no Reece, blasphemy I know.
One of Reece or Gertrude or Dante + 3 of McKneely Taine Groves Rohde + center running pick n roll action would also be fun to watch.
I also want to see Reece and Dante operate strictly in pick and roll, especially since that is Minorās strength (picknroll offense).
I never even let myself think about next year with Reece in the mix so all this new lineup speculation is so much fun.
I mostly agree with the caveat that I hope thereās still some off-ball motion elements sprinkled in, and that the offensive roles donāt end up so specialized that some guys just do nothing but chill off-ball in the corner. A team like Georgia technically runs a lot of spread pick and roll, but they do it in a way that makes me sad to watch them, where one guy ends up taking all the shots.
As Jase Richardson has said, āeverybody eats.ā
actually didnāt ⦠most minds arenāt changed in online debate ⦠just putting the info out there for others
For a change of pace, Iād love to see an uptempo lineup of Reece, Gertrude, Bond, Dunn and Rhode. Now that would be fun.
Man, The Celtics had their opportunity and lost. There are no accidents and luck in a 7 game series. They lost.
They just arenāt a great team. Good individual players but not team.
Replace Rohde with BB and that might be the most athletic 5 weāve put on the floor in a long time (ever?). Not much perimeter shooting but crazy athletic.
