2023 UVa Offseason Chatter

“Who let the dawgs out?
Tony, Tony, Tony!”

Honestly it seems sort of unlikely that’s how he’ll go, but maybe he’ll go nuts and the team will get the tempo up to something crazy like 63.0, good for like 340th.

Would also be interesting to track % of shots in transition. Per Hoop Math (Hoop-Math -- college basketball play-by-play statistics), we were at 14.8% last season (353rd out of 363 teams), which is the highest rate for a TB team, at least as far back as that site has data. Maybe we get to 18% this season?

Groves article from RTD:

In fact, as soon as his summer league season ended, Tanner Groves flew to Virginia to spend time with his younger brother. Since getting to town on Monday, he’s attended his brother’s practices and the two have toured campus and explored the city.

Can we get some Groves brothers content on the social media feed, please?

There’s this odd thing with Dunn where his most impressive offensive clips are the furthest back in time. It’s like he forgot his guard skills for a spell after his growth spurt.

This is from two summers ago. Scholastic live period (I assume anyway)

What I’m really hoping is that Dunn shows more of this stuff this year, and everyone is all like, “wow where did that come from?” And then you, hoops dork reading message boards in late July, can be all like, yeah, I’ve seen that.

Also, who is #4 on Patrick?

I really think RD had a big growth spurt that hurt him offensively in the short term. It will all come back

The blurb on the Kentucky kid was an incredible example of some selective use of data.

Onyenso is one of the best natural shot blockers in the college game. In the five games where he played double-figure minutes last season, he averaged 2.8 blocks in 16.0 minutes played.

Four of those five games were early-season nonconference blowouts. He played in sixteen total games and was under 7 mpg in the ones he did play.

When i first heard of Dunn in high school the word i got was that he was a good shooter and very athletic. If his shots start dropping he’s going to be a lottery pick. (When he graduates)
