Why tweet that out if true?

Exactly, I feel like someone with that sort of inside info would know better than to go to social media with it and risk creating a massive shitstorm.

I think his tweet account is private but you can still the replies if you search.

Hobeck seems to be legitimate guy. Has done sports writing for wapost and others in the past and I know HGN engages with him on twitter from time to time

@HoozGotNext Hobeck seems like a legitimate source right?

There was a knowledgeable poster on 247 who implied the same thing.

I think it very well could be true that they have the money collected…. I’m still not sure they break the glass yet. I highly doubt he’s more or less fired TODAY. If they get a couple of wins down the stretch I think he gets next year…… if they go 1-11…… it gets weird then.

Can’t say for certain if he’s a legitimate source but I fricken hate that guy. Probably the worst UVA fan I’ve encountered on Twitter

Elliot’s buyout was supposed to be 8mm declining by 2/year. Not sure if that means 6 or 4 after year 2 but I’m guessing 6 because you wouldn’t fire him before year 1. So not sure why we’d need to pay 10+. But given Carla’s keen eye for value ($~3.5 mm per win - great job!) I wouldn’t be surprised if she overpays the contractually required amount.

Better idea. Take that $10M and get him some good players.

$5mm negotiated buyout for CTE

And then the other $5mm signing bonus for our new head coach - Kirby Smart

Exactly that. If there are alumn or whatever coming together to get a coach out they could just as easily offered NIL as support when he came in

That has not happened

I don’t follow the football recruiting. Has CTE’s recruiting been good, bad, in between?

Bad

Took us how long to round up 40 for the master plan? And now we can find 10 for the same guy that inspired that last round of funding? Idk. Also, we would have undoubtedly the worst HC opening in football if we fired Elliott, I really believe that

New facilities, good not great payday, fertile recruiting ground where the bar is set pretty low, ACC school that is well-positioned in conference realignment…I think you’re letting your UVA pessimism color this. It’s a decent job, not a bad one. Ironically, the job is probably more attractive now than the situation Bronco left the program with. NIL will remain a challenge but that’s going to be true in A LOT of places. The big deals get the headlines but the struggling stories are more common.

  • Kirby Smart enough not to come to UVA
  • Oh, did he change his name to Kirby Dumb?

Not a sarcastic question, why do you think it’s a better job now than when Bronco left? Facilities being built?

I’ll play this game.

When Bronco left, NIL wasn’t really a thing yet. Now it is, and it’s a major part of roster building across P5. But, well, not really at UVA (talking football specifically, I know other sports are far more competitive), where our NIL stature barely moves the needle. Getting facilities was nice, but in many ways that’s “fighting the last war”, not the next.

Top coaching candidates are going to look at that and wonder how they’ll be able to compete if they’re not being adequately backed by collectives/etc. enough so to attract competitive talent.

Those who said earlier that the $10mm for buyouts and signing bonuses would be better spent on the collective to lure high quality linemen in the Portal weren’t wrong.
