Haha don’t get me started on punters. I’ve got a rolladex of guys who could put a ball in a bucket with a punt. You football guys just overcomplicate it.

I think you hit on something right there. I think BA saying the right thing now 7 months later has the benefit of hindsight. I also noticed the body language and I felt it was clear there was discontent from many on the offensive side of the ball. Where did it start? I dunno bit of a chicken or an egg deal. But if a QB is not invested even slightly it opens a slippery slope.

I said nothing about the punter my brother ha. I just felt like everytime we lined up for a punt something went wrong before the guy who kicks it even got involved. Also, I know near nothing about football

As I said last season Coach E seemed like he micro managed instead of be the head coach. I also have no idea to be a college head football coach with a staff of like 50. But I think he will learn to have confidence in his staff etc and be better there

If not we lookin at Leitao 2

Y’all are being too harsh on BA. I think he tried to buy in. I also think he was asked to do things that weren’t comfortable for him and didn’t play to his strengths. And wasn’t allowed to do things that did. So of course he’s going to be frustrated. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying.

Yeah, I feel like we had an absolutely spectacular fish and he was really confident in his fish-ness, and then he was asked to go climb a bunch of trees. And I dunno if he gave the tree-climbing his all from the get-go or if there was a “Dude, I’m a fish, what’s up with this?” phase, but I’m sure no one was happy with how it turned out.

Yeah I think everyone here is mostly saying the same thing. It’s just that “bought in” is subjective and means different things to different people. I think he certainly tried, but I do believe he ran that offense going “this isn’t working and it isn’t going to work”. And I don’t think we can blame him.

Brennan Armstrong isn’t the first quarterback to have a new coach change the system and find out that the new system doesn’t play to his strengths, and he won’t be the last. It happens at all levels of the game.

Sometimes things just don’t work out despite everyone’s best intentions.

Yea that’s true but a coach should try to play according to the strengths of his players
It’s hard to change everything you have been doing and just throw him in there. I wish he would have integrated to the ground game a little slower with a QB who loves to throw the ball

Meant to post this yesterday. As the article says the QB room is thin and there’s basically no back up option. That said I don’t believe Lane staying at QB helped that.

I think we will see a lot of Muskett taking the knee when defenders break through. Don’t follow football nearly as closely as basketball, but I didn’t recognize most of the names on that list.

Colandrea is gonna be a good one, it’s not ideal to have him as the only other QB option on scholarship heading into the season but give him another year or two and he’ll be ready. In hindsight I really wish we brought in another transfer QB this offseason simply for depth, even taking out Woolfolk and Lane’s decisions we could’ve used somebody experienced just to make sure our 3rd string guy wasn’t a true freshman or walk-on.

also, i’m sure at first Tony Elliott came in and said “here is what you have to show to be an NFL quarterback, just ask the last 4 dudes at Clemson (before DJU)”. so Brennan probably tried, given how far Anae’s offense is from an NFL offense. Logically all of that makes sense.

But then when it’s not working, the natural thought would be “well at least in the other offense we were good”. and if he’d thrown for 4K yards again, even in a “college offense” that doesn’t translate, he’d probably have gotten a shot to come to the NFL and learn as a late round pick/back-up.

So the worst case happened - he wasn’t able to do those “NFL” things AND we sucked and his number sucked. so his last good option was to go back to Anae, try to throw for a million yards and TDs this year, and get back to that late-round potential.

Yeah I agree.

I think that’s a big reason why I’m skeptical of the regime. You either need to recruit really well or do something unique that plays to your strengths and maximizes talent. We are currently doing neither.

Yeah, you nailed it. We aren’t going to out-talent most upper-tier ACC teams, so we need a scheme that maximizes what we have, a la Mike Leach (RIP) at Washington State. This is why I’m very skeptical of TE trying to win the way Clemson wins at Virginia.

JF on 247 just posted an article on our upcoming cookout recruiting event, and there are a grand total of…6 recruits coming, and 4 of them are committed already. It’s hard not to be apathetic about the football program right now. Zero momentum on the field or in recruiting.
