A press release would be nice but not requried. But the fact that no beay reportors thought to ask the question or go looking until it telling about the overall eyes on the program.

Totally agree with that. Although the fact she had to FOIA it leads me to believe she asked and nobody would answer her for some reason. Which is weird. But I doubt FOIAing was her first choice.

That’s exactly what happened. No one would tell her which is ridiculous

Am still holding out hope that a move is made for a new OC, otherwise the new influx of money means quite a bit less to me. No amount of donations can fix shitty playcalling.

The only way we get a new OC for next year is if Des is hired away. Good luck.

I truly sincerely hope none of that money is spent on next year. That’s probably unlikely, but just save it for the next guy. A new coach with an actual war chest could maybe actually get something going.

It’s 100% going to be put towards adding from the transfer portal this offseason. If you withhold that money from Tony to use and instead opt to hold it for the next hire, you’re gonna end up with a massive PR nightmare on your hands.

I’m not sure we can even spend that money if it’s truly anonymous. Someone at VAF has to know the identity of the donor for that large an amount of money. You’re risking your non-profit status and business license and ability to operate if you accept money from an unverifiable source that could be stolen or laundered or otherwise dirty.

This weird anonymous donation bolsters my suspicion that our entire football program is nothing but a front for a money laundering scheme.

I would assume someone within our department is aware of who it is, would be insane if they didn’t though the phrasing that Lo Davis gave in the radio quote shared above is dubious.

I think it’s simply that the gift wasn’t the culmination of a fundraising campaign where they were expecting a donation to come through. I took it to mean that, in the moment, they didn’t know who it was but I’m positive they do now (at least the people who need to know for legal/tax reasons).

Well said. I guarantee that those who need to know know

You mean the IRS?

Of course they know. They are just telling us that they arent going to tell us it was @WFS_HOO

“Anonymous” means we don’t get to know as requested by the donor. The admin knows for sure.

Would it have to be disclosed in a Form 990?

Good question. Non-profit tax isn’t my area of practice so I’m not sure. I looked at the 2023 990, but didn’t see anything listing individual donors. Maybe I missed it? 2023 Form 990 for Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) | Cause IQ
