Bingo. Also, you have to have 1) a large enough crowd and 2) wins/momentum
Surprised this not mentioned:

That’s why I think the “No Fear Cavalier” thing could work.
And yes, it’s cheesy. But this is a world where Sweet Caroline is perhaps the most famous song in the genre.
Offseason Update: We are currently in the hell known as entrance song debates.
I like the idea purpleshadow! We can’t be afraid to try things with our game day experience. The advantages of rock bottom!
And notice that everyone has a different song they’d like to see catch on while crapping on others? Shows you how tough traditions are to conjure out of thin air. Bronco’s Swag Surfin acting as a victory cigar of sorts was organic and successful. When there’s buy in from a large group, that’s when things get traction. The team and/or students are really the ones that can help push these types of things.
Swag surfin at the 2019 Tech game is easily the most hype I have been in-game at Scott in years/maybe ever.
And even that came from elsewhere, been a HBCU staple since the song came out in 2009.
Remember the Hoos breaking swag surfin out during the Miami game during the 19 season.
@AdventiveQuasar is right that came from the HBCUs and its played in a ton of venues now. I saw a crowd of middle school girl hoopers lose their sh%t when it was played at a GT women’s game this winter.
If they must go rock to apease the culture i submit
Has a crowd at a football game ever been more hyped than this?
As a Cowboys fan no clip better sums up everything wrong with the franchise over the last 25-30 yrs. It’s actually poetic
Now im going down this music rabbit hole. If they wanted to honor hometown music they should play just the intro riff from Ants are Marching. Use it periodically ahead of 3rd downs etc. Similar to how the Bengals use the riff to Welcome to the Jungle. More of an attention getter than anything.
Good comparison… Except, ya know, GnR is awesome and DMB is lame.
I remember singing this, though I don’t remember if it was at games. Just sang the first verse and the chorus, I believe the second verse is where things got unacceptable. (Unless “we’re gonna get drunk tonight” is considered offensive, in which case you have to throw out the whole song.)
I’d like to believe Dallin Hall uses this as his pregame pump-up jam
They rewrote the second verse so the Glee Club can keep singing it…
First Verse:
From Rugby Road to Vinegar Hill, We’re gonna get drunk tonight.
The faculty’s afraid of us, They know we’re in the right,
So fill your cups, your loving cups, As full as full can be,
And as long as love and liquor last, We’ll drink to the U. of V.
Refrain:
Oh, I think we need another drink! Heh!
I think we need another drink! Heh!
I think we need another drink! Heh!
I think we need another drink! To the glory of the U. Va.
Second Verse (controversial verse):
All you girls from Mary Washington and R.M.W.C,
Never let a Virginia man an inch above your knee,
He’ll take you to his fraternity house and fill you full of beer,
And soon you’ll be the mother of a bastard Cavalier!
Second verse (rewrite):
From Carrols to the Corner, We will drink our beer and shout,
And if the faculty objects, They can only throw us out.
So fill up your cups, your loving cups, As full as full can be,
And as long as love and liquor last, We’ll drink to the U. of V.

Hadn’t seen this posted, seems like a solid pick up. Reported offers from Georgia and Ole Miss among others. 88 rating from 247, #17 overall in Alabama.
This made me think of that time in broncos earlier years where they tried to do the “I64” kickoff with music and video package. Man that was terrible.
We are doing better, but we need a 7 or 8 win season this year. I was referring to recruiting and portal additions. We might be the only school that can go 11 or 12 deep in the secondary
If we could somehow win 8-9, it would be monumental for the program. We would actually have some real momentum. I think the staff is doing everything right, they just need the proof of concept in terms of on the field results. I think kids WANT to play for them and I think the donor base is as engaged as it ever has been. If it translates into a successful season, I think we see even more support from donors and ultimately butts in seats.
