C’mon Dan. No need to pick on Stone who didn’t do anything bad and was a good soldier who still supports the program. The guy to rank last is Philip Sims and no one will feel insulted or care.

Stone was better than Watford, and Lambert was better than Verica.

Also the fact that Rocco is at 4 and there’s a real argument for it being true is really sad. Rocco was terrible.

I see nothing wrong with any of this. Girls from Mary Washington be forewarned.

The list basically has 2 easy placements at the top and then a journey of sadness from there.

To sum up, the QBs we have had leading our teams over the past 15 years has been a fucking joke. Let’s hope that changes starting this season.

Since Biscuit graduated 20 years ago, there’s been one great QB (Perkins), two good enough if inconsistent ones (Benkert and Armstrong), one good but limited one (Rocco), and the rest varying degrees of barely-replacement-level placeholders (many of whom, the Watkins’ of the world, were good kids and hard workers but just had no business being an ACC QB) and outright busts given their respective recruiting pedigrees (Sims, Lambert).

Maybe this is a referendum on Beck’s quality as a QB coach more than anything (not taking anything away from Perkins’ accomplishments, just acknowledging he benefitted from good coaching to really bring out his talent).

How manny guys we already have out for the season? I know Monroe mills which is a huge loss already. Jam Jackson?

I think Jam is out of the season. Why, another defensive player is rolisted with his number on the official roster.

Any other starters? I hope clary can make it healthy but he’s been through the gauntlet.

No idea and guessing we won’t know until fall camp opens. We had so many guys out in spring you just have to hope they are all ready to go.

UVA football is responsible for so much trauma. He promised me he’d change type abuse.

Phil Steele’s magazine shows Dre Walker out for year with Jam but it could be a typo. However would explain the volume of DB’s brought in from the portal this Spring.

Not saying Phil is wrong, but 247 published their DB room breakdown on Monday and still has him listed in the ā€œreturnersā€ group with the writeup expecting him to contribute. The article is written by one of their volunteer contributors (Ava Posey) but JF does have some good rapport with the coaches and would like to think she’d know if a guy was known to be out and would edit the article accordingly? Or maybe not, maybe they don’t want to tip their hand yet?

Article not paywalled.

Dre Walker

Dre Walker returns for a third season in the cornerback spot for the 'Hoos after dealing with a bone bruise last fall. He recorded seven tackles, including six solo stops across three games in 2024, following 11 tackles and one interception in his rookie season. A healthy season and more experience could allow the junior to work his way up the chart, but competition may prove difficult in the corner slot.

Just a side note, James Jackson switched his number to #1 on the roster, which was Dre Walker’s number, so there are now two defensive players wearing the number one which would indicate one of them is not playing. Could be nothing though.

Seems like Phil might be right….

Wow, good grab, meaning it’s been public knowledge since May.

Knock on JF and 247, which is supposed to be where you go for football news.

I’m still very worried about our secondary even with all of the guys we brought in. It just felt like it was quantity over quality with a lot of our portal adds, which I get to some extent because you gotta have fresh bodies back there but I just worry about our corner talent getting exposed and forcing Rud to play super conservatively in coverage again.

Wow, that is totally new news on Dre Walker. Thought he was healthy and ready to go. Well, if eh doesn’t play this season, both he and Jam should be back next season with a bunch of talented young guys ready to go.
Kearnley will be a starter this season. And he has another season left after this year, so that’s good news.
There are lots of options for the other corner spot. Expect Jordan Robinson or Kenan Johnson might be tops for the other corner spot. The secondary is still deep for all positions despite losing Jam and possibly Dre, which seems to be the case.

Don’t think you’re wrong but I think it was still an upgrade in talent overall even if marginal. That could still mean the are holes but I think they will be easier to plug
