His freshman year was remarkably similar to Russell Wilson’s — the INTs being the big difference.

Wilson was 150-275 (54.5%) for 1,955 yards, 17 TDs vs. 1 INT. 7.1 yards per attempt. Passing efficiency rating of 133.9.

He also had 388 yards rushing at 3.3 yards per carry, for 4 TDs.

Colandrea was 154-246 (62.6%) for 1,958 yards, 13 TDs vs. 9 INTs. 8.0 yards per attempt. Passing efficiency rating of 139.6.

He had 225 yards at 3.1 yards per carry, but no TDs.

Difference is that Wilson had Tom O’Brien and Dana Bible, and he improved throughout his college career at NC State (before going to Wisconsin).

Yeah that board has too many posters that care more about being right than actually contributing to meaningful conversations. Also the constant spiraling into the same discussions over and over again.

Bring JF and Karl over here in a package deal.

I think the main difference between Wilson and AC, at least in their first years is that Russell was almost too smart with the ball. He’s always been a great decision maker but needed to learn to try some tougher throws in order to unlock big play ability. AC is the exact opposite.

He had great coaching to break him of his habits.

This.

AC’s decision making was so poor that its hard to wrap it behind a ā€œhe’d get better with experienceā€ arguement.

The running out of bounds for a loss when he could throw it away, the poor clock management, the unnecessary penalties…..those things are more reflective of who is vs inexperience (e.g., an inability to make a read before a snap or difficulty going through progressions.)

Who knows….maybe with better mentorship he could have gotten there. But I just question his ability to ever be a good decision maker, which is the most important skill in a qb.

I don’t disagree, but it’s also much easier to teach a QB how to be more aggressive than the other way around, at least in my opinion.

In no way do I want this to come across as a defense of Elliott and Des by the way, I fully agree with you that they underutilized AC and failed to capitalize on the things he does actually do well. I think both parties have their own faults in this.

The int number is the most crucial one when assessing a qb completion percentages and TD can be gimmicked but if a qb is making poor decisions or is inaccurate amd turning the ball over that’s a more difficult habit to break.

Fixing the physical aspect is a lot easier than breaking the mental habits. Its doable but needs full commitment from player and staff

The most important thing for a quarterback in this system is to make absolutely SURE that we win the middle eight…

What’s the middle eight?

A couple of things here
Can’t coach height, let’s face it gotta have it in this day and age.
Can’t coach character, either you have it or don’t
The fact he entered today tells me all I need to know.
We know he doesn’t have the height. Was on the field for the bc game and it was amazing how short he was.

Yes but was he able to win us the middle eight??

Five times this year, according to TE, we won that middle eight! Can another quarterback step in and do that? Only time will tell, I suppose.

A phenomenon that Tony Elliott is OBSESSED with. I think it’s like the last four minutes of the first half and first four minutes of the second half.

At least the last guy’s coach speech gibberish was rooted in metrics. Cant wait…

Middle 8 is the last 4 minutes of the second qtr and first four of the third qtr. football coaches love to divide the game up many different ways and they chart all kinds of shyt. Back in the day we use to chart 3rd qtr scoring against us. Wanted a 3rd qtr shut out.

Yea its a common thing in all sports. Phil Jackson used to harp about winning the final 2 mins and first half 2 mins of the 3rd. Honestly pretty common concept and of all the things to ding CTE on kinda minor and not inccurate for last night.
