And that team would be awful too

Fish with a big day, Blue Cain 10 so far. Big day for our alternative timeline. Someone alert Bond that he’s about to score 40

Not what you said I said above. l really just don’t care about lineups all that much because none of it really makes a difference. Oh and I won’t shed a tear with almost any of this roster leaving

Well I agree with you there - I would love to keep in this order:

  1. Gertrude
  2. Sharma
  3. Cofie
  4. Robinson
  5. That’s it.
  6. And a maybe on Saunders as a 7th man type
And Yes I believe the first 3 on the list can be starters on a Sweet 16 team next year with a real PG and a real Center. And when I say real I mean 15 and 6 PG and 14 and 9 center

The thing that drives me nuts right now are the players who are getting a free education AND making more money than most people on this board not putting forth A — or even C — effort because the team isn’t great or because Bennett left.

Suck it up, buttercups.

You’re professionals now. Act like professionals. Play like professionals. I’m rooting for the guys — even if they’re not playing well — who are working their asses off on both sides of the ball, every possession on the floor.

Stanford loss not gonna hurt as bad in Kenpom after this! Stanford beat UNC in Chapel Hill. We might climb to #125 in Kenpom!

Probably pedantic, but also important: They’re not professionals. The school doesn’t consider them pros and the NCAA doesn’t consider them pros and our laws and regs and government doesn’t consider them pros. Etc. And they are therefore not treated like pros.

A bunch of folks (who collectively get to decide) have decided the exact opposite: they’re not pros and they won’t be treated like pros.

They’ve created a dumb system where they get paid ridiculous sums of money, but aren’t pros! It’s really really stupid!

I’m also not as enamored with hard work apparently as the rest of you.

If given the choice between watching effortless skill and some dude looking like he’s busting his ass with some announcer praising him for being “blue collar”, I know what I’d pick.

You know what’s under-valued? Sitting on one’s ass and watching hoops. Me and TJP - the real heroes.

Also professionals reduce their effort when they’re not happy lol. Especially when they feel like they were screwed over or placed in a situation that they can’t escape from.

Yeah this is the thing now
I’m sorry I know it’s unpopular but I think player criticism is fair game now. There are limits and things that are out of bounds obviously but they shouldn’t be shielded from being criticized

I’d be much more sympathetic to this argument if the players had a choice for who they play for this year. But CTB dipped right before the season and their choices were playing for a decrepit Hoos team or no one at all. I don’t blame them for not giving it their all under these circumstances

It is pedantic and also misses the point. The reasonables test says they’re pros regardless of technicalities and legal definitions.

They aren’t getting paid to attend How Things Work or to drive real marketing ROI. They’re getting paid to employ their basketball skills on the court.

It is silly to suggest any differently. If schools and courts want to disclaim otherwise, then they are being disingenuous or willfully obtuse.

It’s no technicality! It’s the entire thing.

They’re being paid for their name, image, and likeness.

Is it bullshit? Yes, of course! But we are all collectively buying into and wallowing in the bullshit so we should at least acknowledge our circumstances, I think. Which is that they’re not pros!

The definition of professional is a person engaged in a specific activity as one’s main paid occupation rather than as a pastime. They are objectively pros by every meaning of the word haha

If they’re getting paid, they are professionals. That’s the bottom line.

If they’re pros, they’re NIL pros, not basketball pros.

I know this stupid. It’s very stupid.

And they get benched, just like Bradley Beal.

They’re getting paid. It happens in the NBA all the time. Coach leaves or gets fired, team is not as good as they thought it would be. But they’re bound by the contracts. They put forth effort or they sit their asses on the bench.

I have no sympathy for college players getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars and whining because they don’t always get their way.

As I said before, suck it up.
