Is this a rebounding thing? (e.g., Saunders and ARob better complementary or primary rebounders with Blake than Cofie)
Iâm not following this year with my typical OCD. Have we really not tried Saunders as the 3? Or just hasnât been successful?
At a rough level of abstraction, Blake, Arob, Saunders, and two of IMac/Rohde/DaiDai gives us an ACC caliber level of height / athleticism. Maybe even a plus level.
5 possessions with Dai Dai, IMac, Cofie, and Blake against Coppin St, apparently. I have no recollection of this.
@Cuts_from_The_Corner covered it in his coppin recap:
Section head is âSaunders as a Small Forwardâ
Iâd been begging for this before the season and ever since the season started (prior to discontinuing the game recaps). Weâve tried it probably less than 10 possessions each way all year - certainly less than 20.
There was Coppin St. and then one of the recent games had him there for probably 2-3 possessions.
In Ronâs defense - it hasnât worked well when weâve done it. In my defense, weâve basically not done it/allocated any amount of time to giving it a chance and figuring out how best to play through it.
FWIW - our most efficient lineups with at least 15 possessions each way, per Evan Miya are:
J. Cofie / D. Dai Ames / A. Rohde / E. Saunders / I. Sharma (+91.1!)
B. Buchanan / J. Cofie / D. Dai Ames / I. McKneely / I. Sharma (+38.6)
Each are under 20 possessions each way.
Our most commonly used lineups are:
B. Buchanan / D. Dai Ames / I. McKneely / A. Rohde / E. Saunders (+ .9!)
J. Cofie / D. Dai Ames / I. McKneely / A. Rohde / E. Saunders (- .7!)
Both just over 100 possessions each way.
Seems to me like we continue to need more Sharma in our lives.
A little bit of Sharma in our lives is not enoughâŚ
iMac and Sharma should split 40 minutes 50/50 every game and adjust based on how they play and matchups.
Without looking ⌠Hoo are the only 2 Hoos shooting 40% or better from three land in ACC games???
- iMac
- Saunders
- Rohde
- Ten
- Sharma
- Ames
- Cofie
Real question because I donât know the answer and we didnât have these metrics when I played.
Does anyone on the staff look at this stuff? Like is there someone who points this out to the staff- even if we ignore it? Is DOGE involved in any way?
Just wondering because I think itâs important, but shouldnât drive overall strategy at the expense of fit/feel/intangibles.
Maybe @HoozGotNext knowsâŚ.
Not sure if they look at in those terms, would assume so, but yeah theyâre aware of the general player analytic stuff. Sanchez is a lot more interested in it than TB. Carpenter used to keep stats on everything for them to evaluate, assume someone else on staff still does.
Wonder if that is now Stelios. Sitting behind the bench you saw Stelly watching the game on lap top computer and taking notes etc on things. No clue how he doesnt get distracted doing that
I think itâs a good tool to see where youâre under-investing time and energy.
Like if youâve got a highly efficient lineup at 400 possessions and a few marginally better - youâre safe cooking as you have been.
But if you have a lineup 60 efficiency points better than the next closest and youâve only run it 20 possessions thatâs a decent sign you should have tried it more to see what you have there.
The answer is Taine (52% on 19 attempts) and Sharma (40% on 40 attempts).
Rohde is at 36% (also on 40 attempts - so one less make but letâs ignore all the assists and stuff for sake of Daveâs argument heâs preparing) and Isaac is at 39.6% (96 attempts) and Saunders is at 39.3% (28 attempts).
But none of this is relevant because the poll is created for us to all drop our jaws and collectively wonder how Ron could choose to sit two under appreciated guards who happen to be the only shooters capable of shooting above 40% in ACC play.
Or, flip side, if youâve sunk hundreds of possessions into one of your worst lineups (see: Caffaro lineup in 21-22) might be a sign you have better options sooner.
Better one:
Who are the only two players shooting at least 60% from inside the arc during conference play?
My guesses are Robinson and Blake
Or
Robinson and Ames
I might not go this hard but I do think more sharma and less McKneely is probably a net positive for both of them and everyone else.
Bingo.
McKneely 19-39 48.7
Saunders 23-54 42.6
Rohde 23-55 41.8
Buchanan 28-50 56.0
Ames 24-40 60.0
Sharma 3-9 33.3
Murray 11-26 42.3
Robinson 13-16 81.3
Power 1-3 33.3
lol ⌠Simply more Sharma and Taine and less IMac ⌠you assume incorrectly ⌠I donât like one dimensional slow dudes who canât handle pressure getting more minutes than everybody else - especially when his one dimension is not in short supply on the team like it was last year.
Ron apparently thinks heâs still the only shooter on the team so he plays 37 minutes a game.
I was simply pointing out that we have five other very capable shooters this year, so there is no reason to play IMac so many minutes.
