⚾ 2024 Baseball Offseason

Coming out of grad school, I had an in at the company. It was still very small then (think Gordon Beckham may have been their biggest endorser) and my friend told me the starting salary range. Too low to seriously consider at the time.

We never went to Nike hats. Have stayed New Era throughout. I think we may be one of the few New Era schools still around. Almost everyone else has reverted to their uniform provider (Nike, UA, Adidas) or The Game.

Also under the Wilson corporate umbrella now with DeMarini.

Wilson - our gloves

DeMarini - our bats

EvoShield - our gear and uniforms

Oh yeah was just making a general statement on hats haha

What are the hottest bats out? Is UVA selling themselves short swinging demarini?

If you liked the offense last season, you’re just fine with DeMarini.

Yeah I replied to the wrong post.

We switched from Rawlings to Demarini in 2024 and didn’t see any drop off, Demarini are generally considered the best brand of bats for college baseball. Though Tennessee uses Louisville Slugger and has been raking with those.

I don’t think there’s too much of a difference between bats honestly, comes down to talent more than anything.

Aaron Fitt just said he thinks we have the best lineup in the country.

I think it’s between us and A&M at least on paper going into next season. We’ve got an embarrassment of riches positionally.

Were they using a pitching machine?

I hope so lol.

Will say these scrimmages are usually pretty high scoring, both teams tend to use a lot of pitchers and will keep them in despite struggles to see how they fare. For example first year William Kirk pitched today and did well in his first two innings, but then ran into some trouble and gave up a grand slam in his third. Maryland also has some returning hitters that are pretty highly touted, the Hacopian brothers in particular are very good players.

Hoos won the 2nd scrimmage 10-3. Sounds like the pitching was much better, 1st year Tomas Valincius started the game and gave up a three run HR in the 2nd inning but outside of that the combo of Jaxel/Lanzendorfer/Oschell/Koenen slammed the door on UMD’s bats. At one point we struck out eight in a row.

Played mostly backups and 1st years in the field and they did a good job. As a whole we worked a ton of walks today.

I saw Becker played short earlier today with Godbout playing 2B. I’m sure they’ll move around some all year but I was kind of surprised they weren’t atleast flipped. Lots of talent that can play all over this year.

Might be jumping to conclusions but at least to me it seems like Godbout is gonna stay at 2nd, and the SS battle is between Hanson, Becker and Sirois. And from what I’ve seen/heard Hanson has the early lead in that race.

Hmm interesting. I had just assumed Godbout would be moving over this year.

Hanson….

Am currently at the not secret, very wide open baseball scrimmage vs UNCW. HOOS are up 4-3 in the 4th, Godbout had a three-run HR last inning.
