⚾ 2024 Baseball Offseason

Now 6-4 UNCW in the bottom of the 4th. Alex Markus and Chris Arroyo both struggled mightily in relief.

If we lose this scrimmage, I guess I’m going to have to put UVa’s win total at 28.

Some kid in the front row behind home plate is banging their aluminum water bottle on the brick wall. It’s very annoying.

UNCW wins the first nine innings 6-4. Got another seven inning game coming up right after.

Burn the program down, it’s all over.

So, what was the problem? Couldn’t hit our 3’s? Pitcher was too short? Likely a coaching problem, right? Guys afraid to swing lest they get benched?

Personally I always default to blaming Kihei.

In all seriousness UNCW has a damn good program, made the tourney last season and returns a lot of production. Their bullpen was impressive and ours broke down in the 4th inning giving up five runs. Second time I’ve seen Alex Markus this fall and he’s struggled with his command both outings despite having good velocity on his fastball. Chris Arroyo also struggled in relief of him, but did settle in for a couple of clean frames after that (also hit a solo HR in the 2nd scrimmage).

Second game was going much better before I had to leave, we were up 5-0 after two innings.

How did didawick do? Haven’t seen much on him

The two times I’ve seen us play this fall he hasn’t been a major factor, had one ball that he scorched to RF for a loud out in the O&B WS but otherwise the main thing I’m getting from him is he’s trying to be a little more selective at the plate. Hasn’t been caught chasing in the other batter’s box as much. I fully expect him to hit in the middle of the order and be a big time power bat again, asking for a repeat of his 23 HR performance is probably too much given pitchers are gonna be more careful with him this season but he’s still a major asset to have in our lineup.

His arm in LF is still an issue, he did spike a ball to 3rd one time. He’s got plenty of range out there but I have no idea what it is with his arm, could he the yips or maybe a nagging preexisting injury.

Anyone going to Puerto Rico? I heard the VAF trip wasn’t well received.

Hope most of them make it to the Grounds

It’s a very good and very deep class. Would say the ones most at risk of getting drafted as it currently stands are Aiden Stillman, Jack Bauer, and Aaron Watson. All three are pitchers.

Nicky Becker, Eric’s little brother, is a really good player who has been climbing up the rankings on Perfect Game, swing is the exact same as Eric’s but from the right side of the plate. There’s also a lot of hype for Jett Bristow, OF from Henrico. Big kid and a very good athlete.

I can’t wait for the season to start (I am assuming there will be far less discussions about Rohde on the baseball threads)

Has there been any chatter on how roster limits and revenue sharing will affect the baseball program for 2026 and going forward? Are we in danger of having to cut guys from the team or rescinding offers or just really hoping guys get drafted or otherwise leave on their own?

May be a lot of turnover next year just because so many guys are eligible for the draft.

Secondary facilitator sounds like a good middle infielder to me — 6-4-3 / 4-6-3, or my favorite, the 3-6-3.

I feel like we just glossed over Jack Bauer. He’s pretty resilient and very skilled. Works quickly too. I couls see him having a good 9 season career.

Or just 24 hours….

A little concerned with the amount of injuries, not sure he’s the same guy from the start of his career.
