⚾ 2024 Baseball Offseason

I can get down with Moore starting. He’s got really good stuff. Feels like we have about 7 guys who could be pretty good starters haha good problem to have…

The amount we’re hearing about Arroyo makes me think he’s gonna be the guy on Sunday.

The Schoch stuff is kind of surreal because it’s so weird to find a UVA player / alum so universally liked in the larger/popular culture of a sport.

I don’t know if he gets 100% of the credit, but his arrival did seem to coincide with the program loosening up a bit on the field (lots more on field passion, lots of celebrating, the Teel helmet issues) and becoming a lot more fun and accessible to the average fan. That culture change has really benefitted the team on the field too in my opinion.

True, but I mean… the guy pulled off an absolutely legendary interview. All-time great. Everyone just instantly knew the guy had a future.

There are some guys you instantly have that “I’d like to hang with him feeling” and he’s definitely one.

New idea for an LRA show. We get Hav, Schoch and Evan Nolte together to talk about literally anything. Best programming you’d find uva wise.

Ference and Godbout 1st team, Blanco 2nd team, Arroyo 3rd team as a utility player.

The fact that we’ve got four guys as preseason All-American picks and none of them are Didawick, Ford, or Becker just goes to show how talented we are this season.

I’m in.

I love this. I know there’s a lot of money on the line, but this guy has his priorities in order. What I wouldn’t give for one more year of “being a kid and hanging out with my friends”

BOC media availability, this is typically a must watch for UVA baseball fans because O’Connor will reveal some lineup decisions and the weekend rotation. Couple notes…

  • Team hasn’t been able to practice on our field the past two weeks because of the weather. They’ve been using the indoor football facility instead.
  • Becker and Hanson have “really improved”, also mentions that Hanson has stepped up as a leader for the team in place of GOF.
  • SS position still hasn’t been decided, will be an ongoing battle. Thought coming out of the fall Becker looked the best, Godbout had an injury from the summer that hurt his chances of starting there but says he’ll see how the next ten or so days look. Also goes out of his way to say that Jackson Sirois has been very good in the fall.
  • Arroyo in the mix as a starter on the mound, either on Sunday or in the midweek. Will be an everyday starter in our order playing 1st, was “The MVP of the fall”.
  • Continues to make note of James Nunnallee as someone who is gonna play a lot, just not exactly sure where. And on a personal note, when BOC gives this much praise to someone’s hitting ability, that typically means they’re gonna be a special player.
  • Matt Augustin “a little bit behind” currently due to injuries, might not play the first weekend. Same for Nate Bassett, who BOC mentions has a lively arm.
  • Confirms that William Kirk will be out for the season.
  • Bradley Hodges and Jack O’Connor “Doing great”, throwing bullpen and progressing really well. Won’t be available for the start of the season but BOC says if all goes well they will make an impact this year at some point.
  • Bryson Moore gets first mention for the Sunday starter role, followed by Joey Colucci, Tomas Valincius, Kevin Jaxel, and later Arroyo.
  • Goes over the OF depth, says Henry Ford should be a really high caliber Right Fielder. Aidan Teel has been good in CF, apparently hit a HR in a scrimmage yesterday. Also mentions Walker Buchanan as being someone who has really improved.
  • “I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but some people out there think the balls have been changed. There’s been a huge jump in HR’s in college baseball, we haven’t changed our dimensions and the bats are the same” lol.

Hell yeah. @chavlicek15 coming in for some games this spring?

Godbout should stay at 2nd. Not sure if he’s quick enough for SS.

I have a feeling we’ll see some movement around the infield. Nothing crazy just about showing positional versatility… they’ll lock in on spots by postseason though.

Augustin being a little behind is semi disappointing. But hardly a complaint haha. Embarrassment of riches at the Dish this year.

Sounds like Arroyo is going to be a big time player.

There’s been a lot of buzz around him. Between BOC’s constant praise, D1 having him as a preseason 3rd team All American, and our fans watching him hit piss missiles in our fall scrimmages, it’s hard to not get excited.

Glad to see Oak so optimistic on O’Connor and Hodges and that they’re already doing bullpens. I had pushed them into the no expectations for 2025 pile. But now they’re going back into the can’t wait to see them at some point this season pile.

Oak really lights up talking about Valincius and Bryson Moore.

Special season unless bad luck / injuries derail

Yes. Will come up for game for sure this spring, especially if he is playing. And will be at FSU for that whole series with my son.

I can tell you this. Walker has gotten really really strong. He was just home for about a month and he is a beast. I threw BP to him in the cage a couple times and it’s legitimately terrifying. Big strong kid who doesn’t cheat his swing.

I hope he gets his chance this year- he works his ass off.

I wish BOC would play more guys - but it is certainly hard to argue with his success - in fact we shouldn’t second guess him one bit.

Buchanan will get some AB’s, probably be sporadic but typically if BOC goes out of his way to mention you as part of a position group it means you’re in the mix for PT.

It’s unfortunate for Walker that we’re just stacked in the OF, if Didawick doesn’t return he would’ve had a better shot at being an everyday player but so long as he sticks it out he should start for us next season.
