I also think (hope) they could have plenty of midweek opportunities in the later innings.
Yup it’s gonna depend on how many blowouts there are. Because of our pitching woes last season and having to come back in so many games, we were forced to play our starters the full game more often than usual.
Hopefully this season with our pitching depth there should be more opportunities to get out to big leads and get some AB’s for depth guys.
How has perotta looked? Saw him crank some balls last year.
Thought he could DH at least this year
Will probably DH a bit and also split time with Ford at 1st whenever Arroyo is pitching.
Arroyo is the story, but I remain enormously pumped for Nunnallee. Might not be this year, but I think he’ll be big for us.
Nunnallee definitely has star potential.
Virginia Tops 2025 ACC Baseball Preseason Poll - Atlantic Coast Conference
Hype train keeps rolling
Series of the year is UVA at FSU (number 2) April 17 - April 19. That’s one that starts on Thursday instead of Friday, so the opener is likely to be an ACC Network night game. Start time is currently 7:00 but baseball schedules can be fairly flexible.
We miss out on playing UNC (number 3), Clemson (number 4), Wake (number 6), Louisville (number 9), and Notre Dame (number 15).
Duke (number 5) and Stanford (number 7) are the top ACC home series this year. They’re back to back weekends at the end of March.
Rankings are from the ACC coaches poll.
Stanford has a Japanese phenom freshman this season named Rintaro Sasaki, he broke Ohtani’s HS homerun record and supposedly was hitting nukes in fall ball. Listed at 6’0, 275 lbs.
Definitely wanna see him play in person at The Dish.
Seriously? They may want to Bo Jackson him and line him up on the football field in the fall. That dude is either a bowling ball or sammy sosa 98 jacked
He doesn’t quite look 275 here but he does look like a husky lad:
I wonder if more Japanese/international players follow suit if he works out well.
D1 has been doing Top 50 player rankings for each position in the leadup to the start of the season, so far they’ve done four and we’ve had guys listed for every one.
Catcher: Jacob Ference, ranked 1st
1st base: Chris Arroyo, ranked 8th
2nd base: Henry Godbout, ranked 1st
3rd base: Luke Hanson, ranked 33rd
Shortstop: Eric Becker, ranked 14th
Outfield: Henry Ford, ranked 14th
Outfield: Harrison Didawick, ranked 15th
Outfield: James Nunnallee, ranked 56th
Starting Pitcher: Evan Blanco, ranked 7th
Starting Pitcher: Chris Arroyo, ranked 67th
Starting Pitcher: Jay Woolfolk, ranked 76th
They ended up doing the Outfield spots as a conglomerate top 100 list instead of going position by position. But still, that’s eight players accounted for on these rankings with the only presumed starter left off being Aidan Teel.
I’m so bored waiting for the season to start.
Sasaki’s listed at 230 most places.
Ford and Godbout make Baseball America’s preseason 1st team All-American list.
This feels like the longest pre-season ever.
(Side note I have no idea when actual opening day is but I’ll be damned if I’m going to google it now.)
Valentine’s Day season opener. 2pm. I’ll probably plan to watch at Kardinal Hall in Cville. Can’t get there til 3ish.
