I do think being first on the docket is a good sign (particularly given the distance). And I agree about starting young PGs early. TBH, I had never understood why point guards had been so reluctant to give Tony a shot.
No we donāt go fast, but every point guard Tony has brought in has left as an All-ACC performer. These responses make me feel a little better.
Well yea because the fan base is made up of thousands of people lol and the forum has at least hundreds. Never going to get everyone to agree to a rebuilding year
UVA was developed the worst most vocal group of āfansā on twitter. Itās really amazing. Any other team gets a transfer visitor, thereās half a dozen replies urging them to pick their schoolā¦rah rah yay! With UVA, the replies are pure negativity, putting down the team/coaches. Not good for business.
If I had to guess, getting dumped in the first round 4 of the last 5 times in the tournament, once to a 16 seed, likely a factor. Also losing to your rival in football an endless amount of times contributes as well.
Feel like it was a lot less negative even just like two years ago. People would always post the gifs of Tony slapping on the title sticker and players holding the trophy. But I think the recent post season issues have just poisoned the well. The positive fans were probably run off from all the hate they got from other fanbases who enjoy mocking UVA basketball and only the negative folks really remain.
Iām not calling out Styles here, because I donāt know if heās talking about how he feels or describing the fanbase. But this strikes me as a perfect encapsulation of the issue. So we lost in the first round 4 of the last 5 times. OK, fine. Can you remind me what happened that fifth time? Was it something notable?
We whine about the first-round losses way, way, way more than we appreciate the championship. And I think thatās backwards.
Oh, and by the way: Since that natty? Weāve won 70% of our games. And two conference titles. Yāall act sometimes like weāve become Louisville.
Oh lord, I donāt even want to imagine that. But Indiana makes sense for him based on how Woodsonās done getting those guys drafted the past couple seasons
I think there is a difference between negativity and reasonable frustration.
I think if you looked at how staff are currently feeling they are probably more aligned with the ānegativityā in terms of understanding how things need to improve and change. I donāt think, regardless of lipservice, Tony and staff viewed last season as a successful one even though I have seen some here try to spin it as such (from what we see with their behavior and past VIP threads on noise around the program).
The natty was great. The last 5 years have been more miserable than joy. Both can be true. The āspoiled fanā rhetoric is just as exhausting. Hopefully the light is at the end of the tunnel and the lessons learned from roster construction, personnel decisions, and scheme approach pay off.
My wife is an Illinois alum so I tend to follow the Illini a bit. Hansberry and Sencire Harris both entered the portal this week. Supposedly they are tight with an assistant coach who left Illinois for West Virginia, so Iād keep an eye on the Mountaineers for Hansberry. I like his game also. I think they were very bummed he left.
As for Harris, I think his decision was also heavily influenced by the addition of Boswell. Great defender but makes Dante look like Steph Curry.
