Ven Lubin reminds me a lot of Gill. Same Body type. Similar game/Lubin has more of a shooting touch but itās also a different game. Both were wings out of HS that grew a few inches and added some girth to become true forwards. Feels like they are the same level athlete bounce wise, Ven Lubin maybe a little more assertive while Gill more sneaky/his athleticism shows in his motor not just highlight dunks
He also didnāt give a shit about basketball. Super nice guy but I knew someone on the staff that said his redshirt year when he wasnāt traveling for road games they could never get him to workout, get shots up, etc. while the team was away.
Yeah lost his love for the game of basketball/heart wasnāt in it.
But is Ven Lubin a point guard?
HOLY SHIT.
(more seriously. Itās interesting to see projected vs how it plays out/how a player plays in a different environment with different coaches and different teammates vs blindly mashing everyoneās stats together)
floor spacing big guard

No thanks
I actually agree. Something is off from the clips, stats be damned. Wouldnāt fit here playstyle wise
Why?
Heās going to get a bag somewhere anywaysā¦
After Rohde & Minor doing less-than-expected this year, Iām a little hesitant to get on board for another high performing mid-major.
There are certainly recruiting misses every class, but thereās reasons most of these guys didnāt have high major interest out of HS. Not everyone has a growth spurt like Trey that turned him into a different player.
Knecht came from Northern Colorado. You never knowā¦a bit of luck in this process.
Look at college stats. 3 schools one of which appears he didnt play maybe. Also UTMartinā¦
I could get on board with 42% from 3. Issue with Rohde is he shot 32% and we hoped those numbers would improve against better competition
iām curious to see what rhodes role will be next year
Iām curious about his role next game
hopefully nothing keep rolling with taine
Exactly
So many factors to consider:
-
Are they a true mid-major or really a low-major? In Minorās case, the NEC is the worst D-1 conference, practically D-II level of competition. Meanwhile, there are some truly respectable mid-majors: MWC, MVC, etc, where the jump to the ACC isnāt that astronomical. Thinking baseball, thereās coming to the majors from A or AA ball, and coming up from AAA. A high performing AAA ballplayer you can work with.
-
Are you asking these guys to be a feature player for us next year, or a role player? When youāre recruiting them for a 6th man role, you can bring them along a little slower, be more judicious in how you use them (maybe matchup dependent?). But if you absolutely need a Day-1 starter, then the standard is much higher.
-
Have they performed well in the kind of systems we run? Did they play man defense, and did their coach actually run defense hard or was it an afterthought? What kind of offensive system were they in: uptempo, ball screen, iso-heavy, motion, etc? Itās like in football drafting a 4-3 WDE and asking him to be a stand up 3-4 OLB; thereās just going to be a learning curve.
Transfers need to match up well with the majority of those criteria for it to project well.
