Christ Essandoko is in the portal from St Joe’s. Freshman averaged 8 pts 5 rebounds 1 block and 37% from 3. Briefly gave him a look out of HS. Turns out he’s a lean to be the next center at UConn.
Good for him

Completely unsustainable. And I’ve said before, it’s going to kill the interest of a lot of fans in the meantime as more of what’s going on becomes understood by the masses. There has to be some kind of standardized rules in place with a little transparency.
Imagine pro sports with unlimited free agency and one year contracts?
The Dartmouth unionization/CBA test case will be interesting in light of contracts, transferring, etc. The players won’t get everything — which is what they’re getting today. They’ll have to make concessions. And in a CBA, what constitutes a fireable offense? And who’s the employer — the school or the NCAA?
I’ll take the other side here and say it’s sustainable. There is a LOT of money out there, and prior to this, money was being exchanged, which was not tax deductible. Now, if you “employ” these guys, you can send a 10-99, and still puff out your chest as a booster.
I’ll absolutely admit I’m less interested in college sports than I was 3 years ago. If the basketball program becomes a regular in the middle/bottom of the ACC standings, I’m not sure how much I’d even watch. Other than our games, and the CFP games, I don’t think I watched a college football game all season.
Waiting…
All concerns can be remedied or perpetuated by the portal…
I think this is fake. Fake account
Hahahahaha
Edit: dammit
Good call. But hilarious.
Man I wanted that to be true. 1 yr back in the show and already acting a fool
It’s never true until ■■■■■■■■■ reports it, tagging his trusty journo buddy, Walter K Friedman
I think what will kill interest is seeing players change teams every year. Fans want to see “franchise players” on their teams, guys they can get to know over multiple seasons, watch them grow. One-year-rentals only generate so much loyalty for the average fan.
I want to believe that the portal will hurt fan interest with you guys, but has Duke’s fan interest been hurt by them going to one year rentals a decade ago?
A good number of us are inframarginal fans, so we are in it for the long haul. But I used to be a big fan of MLB and NFL and now I’m not.
Things change, sometimes little by little, sometimes all at once.
It doesn’t help that nobody in particular is really guiding the ship…
Tyga was the quintessential Cronin PG and even CTB system. Would have loved to have Tyga on any UVA squad.
and no salary cap.
