I get the point but I think you could argue change might be a good thing. We need to break out of our offensive rut and maybe new personnel will help that happen. While Iām still skeptical of what the changes will look like, itās a lot easier to make changes when you donāt have to work against years of muscle memory.
I donāt have a statistical backing or a long post for this, but I feel like we are over emphasizing PG responsibility for an offenseās success.
Across the game, ballhandling responsibilities are being more spread out. Yes, guard play is important, but weāre not locked into an era where the only way to get good results is from good PG play.
Somewhat agree, however the upgrade in team performance when Perrantes assumed the starting PG position might not support your position. At least, on the surface. That said, it has always been my contention that Coach Bennett wouldnāt mind starting three PGs as long as all three could shoot with range. I have no idea which current PG will emerge as Virginiaās starter, and I donāt even want to guess. Iād probably get it wrong anyway. However, what Virginia has been missing that last couple of years is playing experience (under Coach Bennett) and continuity. The teams from 2014 until 2019, were, for the most part, āold teamsā. Since then, the teams have been pretty young. Premature attrition isnāt necessarily a bad thing. If a player has been in the program for two years, and the feeling shared between him and the staff is that a clear path to significant playing time isnāt apparent, then a transfer is probably best for everyone. However, replacing them with grad transfers, or players with just one or two more years of eligibility, doesnāt help with continuity. The fact that recruiting and evaluation for both the 2021 & 2022 classes was severely disrupted by covid hasnāt helped matters. Next year, nine of Virginiaās players will be 1st or 2nd yearmen. Two of the upperclassmen have yet to play a game in a Virginia uniform, and one of the returning upperclassmen (Rohde) has only a single year at UVa. What the program really needs is some stability and continuity. Three PGs who can shoot with range wouldnāt hurt, though.
Revisiting the logo discussion above, someone mentioned having had a piece of merch with a cartoon Cav man; I have this old long sleeve from the early 80s which features this version - must have been a flash in the pan design, havenāt seen it around anywhere else. My personal favorite? Drunk Cav Man from the 1940s (feature in my avatar).
Iām starting to get an itch for a little more off-season content. Olympics are over and I need a fix. Somebody tell our social dudes itās time to drop a new vid. Preferably one where Kyle is just draining threes over everyone on our squad.
People keep saying Kyleās presence and experience will help with the teamās confidence. But Iām hypothesizing the opposite: playing against him when heās on the green squad is going to erode whatever swagger they had left.
I have no thoughts about his impact on performance. What I do believe is that Guyās return to Charlottesville (and putting the finishing touches on his degree) will reinforce the notion that Virginiaās players remain family after they leave. If they so choose, the opportunity to be a part of the UVa family will remain. And, that, I think, is of even greater significance. You only have to look at DFresh11ās post concerning the playersā reunion at Coach Jonesā this summer to see its value.
Anyone hear any updates re additional staffing? Thoughts re rumors of limited funding?
It would be pretty funny if Kyleās job just ends up being trash-talking and destroying all our players in practice. Like every player comes to dread seeing him put on warm ups.
āWhat are we supposed to learn from this?ā
āSuck less.ā
Kyle after every practice:
KG is a big fan of the Samuel Beckett āFail Betterā quote, but I guess it has some practical applications as well.
You mean the rumors started by Chris Graham at AFP? No. No one has thoughts on that but him.
Good stuff, Childress super high on our portal haul + CTB = success this season.
Field of 68 guys have surprisingly positive about our offseason. This + Goodman saying Bennett can win the ACC with this roster.
My assumption is someone took the news that theyāre not replacing a support staffer, Larry Mangino, which I told everybody here about a few weeks back, and twisted that into not having the funding to do so. If you ask anybody, the official line is that his job was eliminated, which just means they donāt see the point in hiring a replacement. Itās wild that such a minor minor happening, I doubt even most here knew who he was, is being used as a way to create drama.
Only a complete shitstain of a āreporterā could do such a thing.
First Iām really following this, but I think I found a culprit. Manginoās linkedin post: āAs some of you may be aware, there have been many changes in college athletics across The United States. The financial changes are massive and will effect most colleges. The University of Virginia has begun the process of adapting and one of the measures has been to cut athletic staff positions. With that being said, I am looking for a new position.ā
I express no opinion on this matter (for once) but I suspect thatās where the lack of funding stuff may have originated.
If that helps him sleep at night.
I think this indicates a reappraisal of fund distributions and the opportunity cost of that role vs the value created by it.
UVa choosing not to fill all roles doesnāt mean it canāt afford to. Sounds like his was more expendable than others.
