I like your list. But my #1 is offensive efficiency and my #2 is shooting. I love the adds, but Iā€™m still concerned about putting the pieces together effectively. I am thrilled that we should be putting 5 threats on O at the same time most of the time (or at least I think we will). And I know Tony will figure something out to make us a good defense, particularly now that we have size and athleticism again.

Next yearā€™s team should be fun.

And as HGN alludes to in the Dai Dai article, these adds definitely change the complexion of who we are going to focus on in the 25 class. See ya Chance.

Well, I havenā€™t seen the whole schedule but Iā€™m thinking something like an 8 win team, dead last in the acc, win the acc tournament because every other team gets covid2, lose in the first round of the ncaat scoring 20 total points

I have to summarize this shit for my way-less-plugged-in friends. Howā€™d I do?

1 Ames
2 iMac
3 Warley
4 Power
5 Buke

Two slashing attackers/playmakers (Ames and Warley), two spacing-friendly snipers (iMac and Power), and a burgeoning all-around big man (Buchanan).

Off the bench:
1 Bliss - all-around / shooter
2 Gertie (if healthy) - slashing attacker
3 Taine? - shooter? or Sharma - shooter
4 Saunders - athletic stretch-4 who is more athletic and less stretch shooter
5 Cofie (my hunch is he gets minutes over ARob and Lang and bats fourth amongst the bigs) - big, strong post player with mid-range shooting ability. Think a bigger version of early career Mike Scott.

Question mark - Rohde. What even is he? A wing, I guess. A playmaker? Heā€™s not a slashing attacker or a shooterā€¦ which is a major bummer because a year ago we thought heā€™d be both!

If Gertrude is out, Rohde is ostensibly the backup to iMac.

Rohde is a connector. I suspect if Power can defend decently well and has the offensive skills we hope for, Rohde might lose minutes to him. Maybe a lot of them. But those are big ifs.

Iā€™m not really sure on starters. iMac and Blake, yes. Warley almost certainly yes, but maybe as a PG, not a 3. After that, itā€™s tough. Saunders is next most likely. 5th most likely is a toss up among Ames, Bliss, Murray, and Rohde, depending on development and lineup needs. Should be a fun offseason to get all that offseason content our program loves to share (snicker).

I still contend that Robinson is going to have to get a lot of minutes. People keep saying Saunders can play the 5 but thatā€™s so far off from what he was at sdsu. Whatever Blake doesnā€™t play (posts need rest and get in Foul trouble) will mostly go to Robinson. Thats probably 15 minutes a game.

I havenā€™t seen the Saunders as a 5 discourse, but I think he can cover stretch bigs (like Danny Wolf from Yale) but not an actual big (Like Cling Kong). I mean he can do it in a pinch, on a switch.

Also, I have no earthly idea if A-Rob can do it either. Heā€™s a bit of a mystery box.

I could see Robinson being the #9 guy in the rotation and still getting around 12-15 mins per game.

Robinson will play by necessity. Iā€™d say our five spot is Blake 20-25 mpg, A-Rob 10-12, Saunders small another 5-10, with Lang a wild card.

And I reiterate that Saunders will start over Power at the 4 both for experience and for defensive reliability.

3 point shots from our roster in 23-24. At least 20 to qualify, in volume order:

  • IMac - 81-182; 45%
  • Saunders - 39-118; 33%
  • Rohde - 28-109; 26%
  • Ames - 23-70; 33%
  • Power - 15-42; 36%
  • Murray - 18-40; 45%

Itā€™s not great, but itā€™s not terrible. iMac and Saunders probably a bit up but roughly similar. Hope Saunders gets the average up a bit. Rohde volume way down. Power volume way up. Ames volume up. Murray up maybe a bit.

I always find it helpful to look at their rates of 3P attempts per 100 possessions to adjust for pace and playing time:

  • IMac - 11.2
  • Saunders - 9.9
  • Rohde - 8.6
  • Ames - 6.4
  • Power - 14.2
  • Murray - 5.8

Taine, please shoot more! Also, I think it would be good if TJPā€™s rate went down some if it meant that he was showing signs of a more diversified offensive game and a higher usage role.

Agree, but the raw number is helpful to get a sense of overall volume to get a sense of what is a fair expectation.

Like, I donā€™t want to bang on Taine, but that 3pt percentage is pretty close to meaningless. And this isnā€™t hyperbole Haney. It is pretty close to meaningless when you shoot that little.

Can someone who has time convert this to the average number of 3 pointers this group would have made per game on our team last season? And how many ppp it would have been?

Iā€™m not sure about that. One of he or Lang will play, but itā€™s a toss up as to who. Robinson has the higher upside but the lower downside. I could easily see it going either way.
