I would guess that the ACC has some sort of standard template for the schedule that they fiddle with each year to change home/away matchups, balance out travel, etc. It would be crazy to start from scratch each season. Also, I assume predictability is good when youāre dealing with multi-purpose venues like JPJ that are balancing different kinds of scheduling requests on different time horizons, so thereās probably an incentive to keep the schedule as similar as possible year-to-year without making it the exact same. So I would guess that this isnāt specific to Duke/UNC, but that there are other schedule āfeaturesā like this for every team that tend to repeat more often than they would if it were truly random.
caveat: Just spitballing here, Iāve got no knowledge of scheduling practices.
Not to go too deep down a rabbit hole of why the ACC sucks but FSU Miami Boston College and Wake all also play them like that this season just off a quick look around some other schedulesā¦
Boston College has an 8 day stretch of those 2 with us as the midweek game. Thatās absolutely brutal.
Iām not sure the ACC is as complex as the NFL⦠but Iād assume they use the computer modeling to spit out schedules now as opposed to the cork board.
They talk about how the NFL changed the schedule around the year Brady surprisingly moved to Tampa⦠which switched a lot of the marquee matchups.
Iām wondering if the ACC listens to hype trains and moves schedules around last minute based on Jon Rothsteinās āsecret spies and informantsā?
