🎾 2024 Tennis

Yep, Emma’s Navarro’s father is not quite as wealthy as Jessica Pegulas’, but both families are well into the billions. I believe Emma’s younger sister is playing tennis for UVA next year. Maybe the Navarro family could throw a $100 million or so into the UVA NIL hat?

She’s already on the team.

This site has Elo rankings for tennis, which are better gauges of current form than the official tour rankings (which are 1-year snapshots and don’t factor in opponent strength), and Collins is up to #6 (Navarro at #11).

We were there Friday and Saturday - my son’s “go Hoos!” after her interview was rewarded with a signed tennis ball. Kasatkina didn’t stand a chance!!

ACCN. Men’s tennis close to win the ACC title (tied up at 3 a piece with FSU, Rodesch up 5-3 in the third )

This really is an even match up between these two LOL

7-6, 6-7, now tied at 5-5 for the acc title

Damn Rodesch really collapses there. Of course in team tennis it’s never one players fault with 6 matches and the doubles point. Moreso just cant imagine the pressure he feels

Damn: First ACC title for FSU. UVA had it’s chance with 3 match winning point attempts and went 0-3.

Holy shit FSU players are balling. I forgot how rare it is for non UVA teams to win the ACC in tennis.

It’s strange, Im actually kinda happy for FSU.

That was pretty brutal, had 4 championship points. JVS had a similar collapse in his second set

That’s a pretty hard choke job from us.

Hope the NCAAT goes better.

Is women’s today too?

Yep, 2:00 vs UNC on the same courts, might take a bit longer since the men’s match just ended

Both teams into the quarters. I enjoyed the article for the women’s team just bringing up that UNC got upset out of the blue:

MATCH NOTES

  • Virginia is the No. 5 seed in the tournament but is ranked No. 6 in the ITA rankings
  • Virginia posted a 15-0 record at home this season and has won 22 consecutive home matches since last season, going 28-1 at home over the last two seasons
  • Virginia’s 25 victories this year is a program record
  • Vanderbilt is No. 31 in the ITA team rankings. They were the No. 2 seed in the Columbus Regional, upsetting No. 14 Ohio State, and were unseeded in the tournament
  • Texas A&M, the 13 seed, defeated 4-seed North Carolina 4-1 on Friday in Chapel Hill. It was the first home loss for the Tar Heels in six years

bracket broke nicely for the women, they get TAMU in the quarters and then would play winner of 16 seed Tennessee vs. 8 seed UCLA (tennessee upset #1 seeded Ok State in the round of 16).

meanwhile the men’s bracket is 100% chalk with the top 8 seeds all in the quarters (same as men’s lax)

Brutal news here, hard to see a pathway to winning it all without Rodesch. Will be interesting to see how they shuffle the lineup

For singles, I assume it’s everyone up one and then Graziani into the 6th spot.

Doubles:

  1. Hopper/Montes
  2. Dietrich/Kiefer (bump up from 3)
  3. ???

Graziani and JvD haven’t played a match together, but they’ve individually played the most doubles matches out of everyone left. But I would be really reluctant to shuffle up all of the pairings, even if you could get to a lineup that had pairings with experience with each other, like:

  1. Hopper-Graziani
  2. Dietrich-Montes
  3. Kiefer-JvD

But seems like that would be weakening two solid courts for not a lot of gain.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a thing at this level. Cant imagine what the illness is
