🏀 2024 Women's Basketball Season

Thing they underestimated the hole Cam and Clarkson left in the front court and didn’t really do a good job filling it with immediate impact and size.

Roster Miscalculation

Eh, there’s only so much you can do. Cam was an offensive battering ram and ClRkson was the best defensive player with any size. They’re hard to replace.

Lauterbach took a HUGE step forward from last year, but the fact that she’s starting is a bad sign. Lattimore has been fine but not great and Noyen being hurt (and I suspect hasn’t taken as much of a step forward as hoped, but I haven’t checked the stats to be sure) hurts. Plus, Brown isn’t big but she has a nose for the ball and plays surprisingly well inside so having her out for the season has left the team thin inside.

Hurd started out fantastic before slumping a bit, but it’s worth remembering she’s a true freshman. But it is unfortunate that basically the rest of the first year recruiting class are guards. Because Lattimore and Lauterbach will be gone next year and even if Brown comes back they will be even thinner up front than now.

The team was SUCH a dumpster fire when Coach Mox took over that it’s fair she gets a little more time, plus the ACC is brutal on the women’s side. But she really needs to make the NCAA’s next year.

Yeah my og goal was for Mox to make the tournament in year 4 and that dream is still alive. Definitely didn’t underestimated the state of the program under Tina that Mox had to inherit.

Hard to tell if it was a miscalculation (didn’t go after bigs) or recruiting failure (couldn’t land them). Or… miscalculating who she could land. We need a ladies’ HGN to give us the scoop!

In the other ACC-SEC Challenge, the ACC trails 2-4 with the other 10 games happening tonight. Looks like the ACC is probably favored to narrowly lose this challenge too, but we might be able to pull out a tie.

Hoos host Auburn at 6. A win would effectively balance out one of those bad losses in San Juan, the way I see it.

McGhee and Grays are starting now too.

Interesting. I wonder if Noyan is still out? I thought she was just sick.

Announcers saying Auburn is also without 2 starters, so no excuses. Terrible start tho

We have more turnovers (6) than points (5).

Edit: We finished the quarter with more points (17) than turnovers (8). Whew!

Yikes Auburn is not even that good.

We are getting cooked.

Think we also underestimated the importance of upperclassmen veteran leadership

Woof. Attention to detail on the defensive end has been rough.

This zone is kinda hilarious, they are mostly just leaving Auburn wide open for 3s and it’s…working?

That’s now three straight “shoulda-wons” that we didn’t win. Maybe we’ll still pull it together, but with these losses it feels like we’re now aiming for a WNIT resume at best.

The WNIT feels right. Still feels like a group with some good to great pieces but they havent come together/figured out how to play and maximize their output.

Essentially they look like what you expect from a team of mostly 1st and 2nd yrs

South Carolina blowing out Duke who is also top 10 lol

Still too young, to thin inside, and too inconsistent. Maybe a year away on all fronts.

And, by the way, not well coached.

I’m giving it one more year, because Tina left this program in about as garbage a position as one can imagine. That said, thus far, Mox gives off some strong Gillen vibes in terms of the on-court product.

Yeah fully on board with giving her one more year (talent has improved a lot and still young, personally like Mox) but really did expect more this year. Not a great look for Carla.
