šŸ€ 2024 Women's Basketball Season

I like Mox but…. the time is coming for us to look less like a disorganized mess. We’re in year three. I’ve still got some optimism left but the same problems continuing to plague the team year after year is something that makes you just start to wonder about the coaching.

I’ll happily give her till the end of next year and be a positive supporter. But uh… it’s time to take a step.

Haha. Those are rookie numbers. In a couple of the early season games, the teams combined for 50+.

Yeah. My younger daughter was at the game with friends, and said it was rough. If they haven’t taken a step forward by next season, it’ll be time for some serious reassessment. It’d be HER squad at that point, and, barring a ton of portal action not a particularly young or new group.

I could see CTE, Mox and Sanchez all on the hot seat at the same time.

It’s interesting how people feel about Sanchez because disorganization and turnovers …. That has been Mox for her entire tenure… I do like her excitement… but execution has to be the norm not the exception.

Yeah, but the TOs were part of the trade off for a fast paced, up and down type of game. But 28 points………? I had high hopes for Mox and she is a 180 from what preceded, but not seeing even glimpses of an NCAA tournament quality team, which is a shame because Kymora would be fantastic on that quality of team.

Yeah, I think we all expected there to be that trade off as she switched the team to a faster paced transition-oriented offense. Naturally players who hadn’t played that way before might struggle at first and it’d take a year or two to install the system and find players that fit it well. So didn’t stress me out at first. But now it doesn’t really feel like things are meaningfully improving. It just feels like a mess a lot of the time.

The optimal # of turnovers is not 0, as Tony seemed at times to believe, but it’s also not (checks box score) 22, yeesh. (Although BC had 21, so.) We have to play smarter than that.

I think Mox has been given more leeway due to being compared to Tina Thompson, which was a completely unmitigated disaster as opposed to Sanchez vs. TB where it was more of a slow decline.

But some uncomfortable questions are gonna have to start to be asked about Mox if the play doesn’t turn around this season, we’re still pretty young and thin in the frontcourt but we’re not playing up to our capabilities with how much talent is on this roster. This should be a surefire NIT team with an outside shot at the NCAAT.

This doesn’t include the initial turnover, but shows the rest of that sequence:

More talent is always good, but short of a front court spot, I’m not sure I see a glaring talent problem with this current team…
